I myself have gone through long stretches of unemployment, and not for lack of looking. I, like others here, have never gotten a job through an interview process it's either been someone knows someone or they'll just hire anyone.
Best job I had was substitute teacher, no interview, just had to have a degree and pass a background check. Being a sub I just showed up and watched the class, I didn't have to deal with administrators or other teachers and could just be invisible. Only people I had to deal with were the kids and I understand and relate to kids a thousand times better than I do adults.

The number may be biased by the high number of undiagnosed older adults with high functioning autism. According to a recent Australian survey of adults with high functioning autism:
54 per cent of the adults with Asperger’ and HFA in this study (excluding those still in full-time education) had a paid job at the time of completing the survey.
Whilst the employment situation is far from ideal, the employment rate of 54% contrasts sharply with the 13% employment rate that would correspond to an unemployment rate of 87%.
