Don't worry about it. No doubt, sometimes you see it and sometimes you don't. Working it out is all a learning experience. ;)

Truth be told though, I can't say I like Manchester much. A grim place.

I am meeting her half way,she lives in York. It is like taking a tiny spaceship and flying thousands of miles hoping that I don't get lost. I had this experience when I played Elite on my computer.

Manchester is hardly halfway.
I suggest you carry on a few miles and go to York.
It's a nice city.

I would have thought that around the Nottinghamshire area would be about halfway, not Manchester.

I live in Manchester, it's the coolest place in the UK, don't let anyone tell you different, definitely worth travelling 4 hours to get to

Seriously? I really like Manchester. It's by far my favourite place in England.
As a Scot I far prefer my hameland but Manchester is plenty cool.

Liverpool, however stinks. It's like it's trapped in 1979.

Manchester is great!! !

Aspie_Chav, you want to do it, you go for it!!

Born and bred in Manchester! And loved living there.

I think it's grim down SOUTH. London and the Home Counties are a high-speed pressure-cooker, full of people rushed off their feet. The trains and roads are choked. Coming back to Manchester after a stay in London always felt like unbuckling a tight belt and relaxing.

I would drive for days if someone I liked wanted to see me, and I hate to drive.

I have no idea where any of those places are.
Four hours doesn't sound like much. I spend 1.5-2 hours going to class five days a week. But then, British cities are supposed to be more concentrated.

I think you should go for it. Spending 8 hours (traveling 4 hours each way) is worth the possibility of you meeting someone who might like you.

i've taken 12+ hours trips, by bus, so 4 hours is okay :)

(you don't want to know how much the butt hurts when sitting that long:P)

Yeah, it is a great city. There are loads of little nooks and crannys as well with nice architecture. I have always loved the millenium quarter (near the cathedral) and all the 'ye olde' type pubs round there. I love those kind of buildings; it makes me feel like I am in medieval times or something.

Only visited Manchester Piccadily station on the way to Glossop - having a 10 year old ask me for fags and the fact that my train to get there had been delayed by 3 or 4 hours definitely left me not liking it too much.

4 hours really isn't that much (Often takes me that long to get home from Norwich to other side of London, but if she is from York, I'd rather go to York as a place than Manchester.
