As a child, up to about school age, I was talkative and social. As time when on, I became quiet and bookish.

The mother of my best friend, from schooldays, summed me up a few years back:
"Once upon a time you couldn't get him to say a word - now you can't get him to shut up!"

I still don't do "small talk". I'll only talk about my "specialist" subjects. However, they now include everything but sports and politics.

In my case, I was a very quiet child in most respects.

VERY quiet. These days I am quiet 90% of the time with little spurts of over-talkativeness.

I was talkative, always talking, talking about nothing and everything. Any thought that came into my mind, from "that old man has huge ears!! !" to "the sun set exactly 2 minutes later today than yesterday" came spewing forth, even if no one was around. My biggest problem my whole life was keeping my dang mouth shut.

I was practically mute around strangers and new situations. Once I was comfortable, I wouldn't shut up. Apparently I also had a problem using my "indoor voice".

I was totally a "speak when spoken to" kind of kid. I seriously, honestly don't think I understood the concept of approaching people to start a conversation.

When young I was very talkative, and would talk peoples' ears off about topics that only I cared about. When I got a little older I went to the other extreme.

I was very talkative, until my parents started scolding me for going on about my obsessions and complaining about my accent. After that, I became very quiet.

I was very talkative as a kid. That did not sit well with my family, especially my parents, so until the age 4 or so, I actually thought my name was Bequiet (from being told to "be quiet" all the time). My preschool teachers, however, were a somewhat tolerant of my talkativeness. One of them actually told me that my real name was not Bequiet.

Make me wonder what an ASpie convention would be like ?? All silent, too afraid to chat with one another??

After a late start, I was a chatterbox around people I knew. Strangers, that was a different thing - I hardly ever spoke.
