Most of them seem to be promoting websites. I figured they were the ones behind it.

I find it somewhat annoying, but also somewhat amusing.

Perhaps not allowing new users to post for 10 days (or some other arbitrary number) after joining would help. Or some similar measure.
It definitely seemed to dramatically cut down on the amount of spam on other forums I've been on.
Or, maybe just a double captcha at sign-up.

I was amused at the beginning. At this point, it's beginning to seem like a normal part of WP.

I figure whoever is doing it will get tired of it eventually. I wonder if it's a disgruntled or banned member getting revenge. But it's not that hard to overlook it and post as usual. Lot of wasted effort on their part.

I think that the spam is interesting. It's funny watching computers trying to behave like human beings.

Data is beautiful. Especially when it doesn't have an immediately obvious meaning

It's tiring and boring and I don't really care about it anymore. It's easy to ignore because we have more mods now so it's gone in no time.

It is some banned member. I don't know who, I doubt the mods will give out that information if I asked.

i know you've been sending me PM's Fnord. i've been away most of the time, these last two months so i can't see your messages. i'll be here more often as the school year winds down but fortunately we have new wonderful mods with already some experience under their belts...

it is some banned member sending bots, he's been bugging us for nearly a year and we can get rid of it (almost) as fast as it appears now, and that's all that matters here. i'm never here so the others catch it before i do, there wasn't any i think when i logged on. they're really on top of those things.

it being state sponsored is the last thing i'd guess. you'd think governments have better things to do than spam an autism forum.

It makes me think that the recent site upgrade has some holes in it's security sense I NEVER noticed spamming like this before the site was upgraded.

Indeed. I've yet to notice any difference that could rightly described as an upgrade, at least from my viewpoint as a user.

Back on topic, I strongly dislike most forms of advertising, so naturally I hate the recent spam here. The only thing I like about it is when it's in some obscure foreign language, because that means the spammers have failed to get their message across. I wouldn't have thought it difficult to include a bit of code in WP's website programming to block anything written with such an unusual character set as the one used by recednt spammers here.

I really don't think it's got much to do with governments. Just individual lowlife entrepeneurs with no scruples about annoying millions of people in the pursuit of a tiny chance of making a sale.
