I think that in the past Alex didn't want those that actively seek to become moderators to be moderators although the four newest mods seemed to have volunteered to work as mods when WP had the Korean spam problem. I don't know what an "unofficial forum admin" is, but if the same principle applies, then creating this thread has disqualified you from becoming one. Having said that, I think if you do have the qualities of a good mod, then Alex might pick you for the position.

Why? Lol

It's something to do with the latent potential for liking the idea of having an option of abusing the position of power, that some people who desire a position of control/power over others, and the ambition to get to the top, for example in politics, may tend to have, though obviously this wouldn't be universal.

There are some people who find themselves in a role in which they exert control over a situation, who got there almost as a by-product of simply wishing to help or campaign politically or seek change and have to pursue certain levels of power to make those changes.

But there are others who are in it more to get a kick out of potentially gaining status and control or to impose their own world order on things, sometimes to a harmful effect.

I think that's why it's often said that politicians who needed to be ambitious enough to get to the top, are not the best-hearted people to make life changing decisions over other people, because in order to have reached that level of personal success, they have to have certain ruthless and egotistical qualities that are not always good hearted or kind or fair-minded.
But that's more in the arena of political power.

I think it must be tricky choosing mods for a site like this, because the candidates have to have little to no tendency to be anything but calm, fair and neutral. I know I wouldn't qualify; I've "gotten into it" with a few people, get mad, have bad days, etc where I wouldn't be in the mood to tolerate a fool gladly, or to disagree without being a bit miserable about it. To be a really good mod you almost need to be saintly and have the patience of Job!

I think you would make a great administrator.

Simply by asking, the OP has doomed her chances of ever becoming a moderator on this website.

No, that was just a lovely coincidental joining present.

I don't think anybody would volunteer to deal with that!

Anyway, surely if it's an "unofficial" forum admin that you want to be, then nobody can stop you?
