Charismatic is the last word that would ever describe me.

Oh, yes, when I'm masquerading in public as a well-dressed, articulate, helpful and humorous individual. In private, though, my handful of dear friends simply call me eccentric, an appelation I've aspired to since I learned what it meant. Among other things, it gives one license to remain in the house all weekend in the same pair of pajamas, letting dishes pile up in the sink and pouring through one book after another.

from the way people react to me, I had to wonder if I was charismatic. they'd copy me a lot, run out and buy the same clothes or whatever, seemed to want to be me!

i don't want to be me most of the time. it's a strange thing, the charisma thing.

Demographic most likely to find me so = male geeks.

Demographic least likely to find me so = Intellectually deficient middle-aged women.

cha·ris·ma–noun
1. Theology. a divinely conferred gift or power.
2. a spiritual power or personal quality that gives an individual influence or authority over large numbers of people.
3. the special virtue of an office, function, position, etc., that confers or is thought to confer on the person holding it an unusual ability for leadership, worthiness of veneration, or the like.

(From www.dictionary.com  )

You gave the DICTIONARY definition! The COMMON definition has more with being socially adept, charming, and compelling. That is often OUTSIDE of any office, or church. You can be a charismatic speaker, or a charismatic salesperson, for example. Sometimes, the dictionaries JUST miss the mark! BTW I DOUBT fresco meant the definition you gave!

Steve

yes but this application of the word would fall under definition #2. anything with social status or social sway: influence over large numbers of people

Yeah, #2 is the commonly used defintion. It really doesnt have anything to do with being socially adept though. Case in point is Joan of Arc. Considered one of the more charismatic historical figures, because of her courage and ability to see the future. Socially she was a total f**k up.

And yeah, Ive got it coming out all over me. I cant keep the stuff away. Pesky charisma, nothing but problems.

I get called "reserved"- certainly not charismatic. People sometimes think I'm cute, or funny, but I'm not much of a charmer :(

I tried to come up with my own definition that matched the understanding. Oh well, that isn't the easiest thing to do at times quickly and extemporaneously.

Yes, I have been by various groups of people i mingled with on the net. I am told I have a very strong energy and am 'special' but then I believe every human being is special and unique. I found it uncomfortable when people said such things of me.
