Should I just shave my head?
As some of the other posters have mentioned, I suggest a short hair do. That's what I do. It's a lot easier to take care of. There are a number of short styles to choose from. I do confess, though, that when my hair grows out in the winter, I do start having fantasies about shaving it all off, and just wearing a knit cap if I have to go out. So far I haven't actually tried it, though. I either eventually trim or cut it myself, or wait until late spring when my parents come back north for the warm months (they are snow birds), so my step mom can cut it for me, as it's hard to do a good job of cutting your own hair.
Definitions for those who might not know:
Snow bird = person who migrates with the seasons to avoid cold weather.
Trim vs cut = A cut is a full all around shortening of the hair. A trim takes a little off, sometimes just the front, sometimes also the sides, and sometimes a little off the back, too.
I suggest you stop worrying about what your relatives want for your hair. It's your head, and your life. If you are paying for it, you can get your hair done any way you want. Just bear in mind, if you live with them, and get some style that is really weird, they may give you a hard time. This is why a nice short style would be good. It looks nice, and is easier to keep clean, and shouldn't cause problems with the relatives.
I don't live with my relatives, and prefer to either cut my hair myself or have my step mom do it, so money isn't an issue for me. I just prefer a hair style that is easy to take care of and that will last a while before needing to be cut again, so short hairdos work best for my needs.
I suggest you either check out short hairdos online, or go to a hair salon and look at them in the style picture books there. I've done that, and it's kind of fun trying to figure out which ones I would like the best on my head. If you don't handle going out well, just start by checking online first. And remember, trying to imagine these hairdos on yourself is a fun way to "play" with your hair.

I got my hair cut very short for medical reasons as well as some laziness. My boyfriend's mom gets fussy every time I get it cut shorter. Just do it. You're the one who has to deal with your hair. They just look at it.
