I think there's more females on WP because undiagnosed female Aspies often spend a long time looking for an answer. When they think being on the spectrum is the answer they tend to spend time here.

Ditto. Whatever this actually means, I see other spectrum guys with the same perception and it makes me wonder if I'm some sort of neurological edge case that hasn't been accurately defined. Yeah... it probably just means we've acknowledged the fact that life isn't native to the 3rd stone from the sun and that reproduction can't be its' only purpose , considering we're probably the result of a series of cometary impacts; quite an asexual phenomenon, panspermia.

Keep in mind that autistic women might be more inclined to seek out an autism forum than autistic men.

I'm transgendered. I feel very male on the inside and that's how I identify and express myself on the outside, in a 60s Mod sort of a way. I also wish to be treated as such.

I am contentedly female, though in many ways I am not a "typical" woman.

I have no idea what I am.

I'm biologically female so that's what I'll say on the poll

Maybe the purpose of the poll isn't clear, but isn't it to do with the perceived gender in-balance between biological males and biological females who are on the autism spectrum. The third category in the poll, I assume to take as intersex. Wouldn't it be better to take a separate poll on those people on the autism spectrum who categorize themselves as transgender?

It is often stated that there are 4 or 5 times as many males as females on the Spectrum.

Slightly off topic, but somewhat related: does anyone know if the discrepancy in the diagnosis rate for males vs females is more a result of biological differences between the sexes, or of the way the diagnosis criteria are written and the females tend to be socialized?

I've seen both suggested as the real cause, but I've never seen anyone point to any sort of research to back up either assertion.

They discuss it here:

Awesome, thanks for the link.

That's a very interesting talk.

Interesting to hear the estimate that the true rate is around 2:1 male:female, and the rest of the difference is based in flawed diagnostic instruments and practice.

I personally don't believe the 4:1 ratio, but I am not a psychologist or a statistician (wow spelled it correctly first try!).

*If* one believes the 4:1 ratio, and *if* one could believe that so-called STEM occupations tend to have people on the autism spectrum, perhaps that could explain the 20% female of these occupations. Mighty big *IF* there though.

boredome, love the doge. I never heard or saw of "doge" until my kids started playing that agar.io game.
