I landed at JFK once and it was in a crosswind and it really scared me.

I also really liked the Chinooks as well. I think they have a really nice sound.

Here is my Mantis spotting for today. I took it out of the car and put it in my large catnip patch that is in full bloom right now.

I like spotting planes too, but it isn't a strong interest - I am just curious what plane it is and check http://www.flightradar24.com/ when I hear a plane flying low over my house.
I live about 40 kms from 2 airports (Kraków KRK/EPKK on east, Katowice KTW/EPKT on northwest) so I can spot low (as long as you consider 4kms "low" ) flying planes a few times a day. During regular days I can see the 21:10 plane flying from Kraków to Dublin(DUB) and not many more but the days when wind changes are quite interesting. A lot of planes to Kraków fly over me while flying in rounds, preparing their way to the airport and some planes from Katowice fly over my house on their way to south.

I also find plane crashes interesting. I always read what I can about the incident whenever I hear a plane crashed somewhere in the world.

I know flightradar24.com.
It's nice to meet people here plane-spotting.
I also read about crashes, but I do not like to see videos of it.
But when 4U9525 crashed, the day before it was obvious that the plane crashed against the mountains because of pilots interaction I wrote to someone that the plane did not want to crash, it was human influence.

Here's today's spotting.
Didn't see a Mantis today, but did see an Argiope spider and a Tiger Swallowtail.

I like looking at planes whenever they pass over me. I don't happen to be so drawn to trains as the stereotype goes however. My dream job is actually to become a C-130J crew chief when I am of age to join the Air Force.

Spiders scare me a bit, though I find them fascinating at the same time.
There are many spiders now in my garden building their webs, and these webs and the fact that they can build them are highly fascinating too, I just sometimes move a web to another spot when they are located in a way that I cannot pass.
The butterfly is nice.

A year ago while I was sitting in a plane ready for take off I saw a C-130 landing, and I was really excited to see it.
I hope that you can fulfill your dream.

The Super Hercules is an amazing aircraft.

I hope your wish comes true.

Yesterday, I was floating in a swimming pool with my eyes closed and when I opened them there was a V-tail Bonanza passing low overhead. He was on final for 31 at Morristown Municipal. I know those planes have a bad rep, but I have always liked the look of them.

The south pacific has so few flights, so sad.
If people want to fly from south america to australia, do they have to fly to california first?

I don't think it's so bad. You can fly LAN from Santiago in Chile to Sydney in Australia with one stop in Auckland, New Zealand.
You can fly direct on Qantas--it's a 14:15 flight on a beautiful 747-400, one of the best planes ever made.

Here is today's spotting.
This is the blooms of my catnip patch and in the center is a green Carolina Mantis, but it is hard to see. Sorry my phone doesn't do good photos.

I work in air traffic control and my dad was an aircraft mechanic so I've been around planes my whole life. Travelled a lot by plane as well - so it's kinda in my blood.

Oddly enough however my favourite hobby is model railroading and I just love trainspotting.

I guess its a whole transportation thing. :D

The only time I spot planes is when they buzz the small mountain valley that I live in in Southern California. What I look for is where the wildfire smoke is rising. However, I really do enjoy bird-watching (@ 200 birds on my Life List ).

A friend of parents worked in air traffic control when I was a child and there were times he took me to the tower of the airport he worked at and it was fascinating to me to see all the radars.

I've always wanted to go into the cockpit of a plane, and watch the controls.

When I was 6, I got to go into the cockpit of the TWA 707 that was flying us across the Atlantic. It was fantastic.
Later I visited the cockpit of a Pan Am 747 so I also got to see the upper deck and they gave me a set of plastic gold wings. Awesome experience. What a plane!
