Stellar's Jays whistle very softly (which shocked me).

Mainly, they just squawk.

Same here. And in the workplace, not only does it do no good, but it can actually work against you. You get labeled as an overly sensitive troublemaker and it comes back to haunt you in your job evaluations.

Exactly!

I am also annoyed by humming and overrought, phony singing voices. Some people's normal singing voices are quite good, and I hate hearing them do poor imitations of other singers.

ARGH! ME TOO!! ! It's hard to explain exactly how I feel when hearing that kind of stuff, but it's a mixture of extreme anger and revulsion. Hate whistling, hate eating sounds, hate cat or dog grooming sounds (though I love my kitty to bits), and HATE the amplified gakky, goopy, disgusting kissing sounds in film.

Only when it's my parrot. Seriously. She whistles a "beep" sound exactly every three seconds, sometimes for an entire hour. 8O 8O

Same here. I put on the TV mute when there are eating sounds. And there are certain TV commercials where I rush to put the TV on mute because of the mouth and throat noises. For example, there is one for John Hancock where the announcer says the words "John Hancock" in a way where he does something odd with his throat when he hits the two "k" sounds in Hancock. It's something like "John HanKKoCK" with a real elaborate, odd emphasis on the k sounds. I don't know how to describe it very well, but if you heard it you'd know what I mean. There are some other commercials where similar sorts of noises are made, but this one seems the most extreme to me.

Yes! I'm not familiar with that particular commercial, but I know exactly what you mean -- have you seen the Dunkin' Donuts one? The announcer does an odd, horrible thing with his K's, too.

Sounds like he has mashed potatoes in his throat. I hate him.

Ha! I'm the only person here who likes to hear people whisle! My reason is psychologial. My hearing is extremely sensitive, and I hate most high-pitched or loud sounds, period! But I worked in customer service for 17 years, so what I hate most of all is to hear some miserable a****** griping and whining. Hearing a person whistling makes me smile because it sounds happy to me, and I don't care how long it goes on. I just take it to mean there's one less complainer in the world!!

I HATE any kind of human whistling. It hurts my ears and makes me angry! I do like to hear my birds whistle and chatter and I like the wild birds songs too. I wonder why? I think it's because logically (to me anyways)birds make those noises-humans don't. And since today seems to be the day for my horrible parents to get slammed--- my Mom knew that I hated whistling and she would torture me with it. I would cry and ask her to stop and she just laughed at me and did it louder, usually after telling me I was pathetic!

I had that problem with my mom too! She really liked to eat carrots and crunch them, and after she found out it drove me crazy she'd crunch them as loud as possible. Pretty much my whole family made repetitive noises that annoyed me like crazy, so I spent a lot of time alone in my room as a kid.

Did you know that parrots will intentionally do stuff to annoy you? Especially the smarter ones like afircan greys. Sometimes one bird in particular will do some annoying behavior, but not the other ones so i have to think what i could have done that could be percieved by a bird as deserving of annoyance. One of my lovebirds can mimic the angry scream of my particularly disturbed Amazon. He will do this when he wants to come out and play with me but has been "ignored". This actually causes two other birds to laugh.. and I KNOW they know what they are doing...feathered sadists!

Loud whistling physically hurts my ears. I can’t stand hearing it at concerts and other spectator events – I literally have to plug my ears. If it’s a concert, I actually bring earplugs anyway because the music is always soooooo loud. I never quite understood why concerts have to be deafening in order for people to enjoy them.

Another thing I can’t stand is wind chimes. They drive me up the bloody wall. I can’t believe some people find them soothing.

Oh yeah!! wind chimes. another thing I hate as well. I like to sit on my balcony enjoying a nice breeze and peace and quiet. Neighbors with wind chimes violate my right to do that. It's a senseless intrusion. Once I had a neighbor with a wind chime on his tree. One night I snuck over and took it down. LOL If I owned an apartment complex I would ban wind chimes.

Enduring people whistling is one of the few things left that to this day that will drive me to bash my head against the wall if I can't find a way to escape it. My mom loves to whistle. The noise makes my brain feel like it's slowly and painfully being shredded apart. To worsen things, she'll put a vibrato into her whistle which makes it only ten times worse.

Which is why you'll almost never see me doing something with out a pair of headphones on. They serve to protect my ears from unwanted sounds.

There was one commercial where people were crunching loudly on cereal. I had to lunge for the mute button if I didn't want to scream. Aside from being annoying, loud crunching and slurping are plain bad manners.

I also hate when people yawn loudly and don't cover their mouths.
