People may cite statistics to support their own decisions, e.g. whether they take some action or not in their lives.

If you take a good look at what info is coming your way, it's all pasteurized and processed before it is related to you. Our only choice in the matter is which media and venue we get it from. :?

Well it makes sense to site statistics or studies on a topic, though personal first hand experience is certainly useful as well. I feel like I have plenty of personal experience to discuss when it comes to various things...but I also like to read up on facts and information and stay informed about things that I am not directly experiencing myself. Also I like to look at all info on a topic that I can...sometimes I find info that proves my interpretation is wrong.

Even someones 'first hand experience may not be 100% accurate' I mean if you take a group of people have one person tell the next person a rather short story, then have that person tell the next one the same story and so on. Once it gets to the end see if the story that gets told is exactly the same as it was the first time....chances are it won't be because human error.
