I still have the job. I got taken out of my cubicle and had a talking to by the QC. He said that they have noticed that I have more empathy when I talk to the answering machines than I do for when people answer the phone.
They told me about a Hippo law. That is where you cannot tell anyone about the medical procedures unless they prove who they are. I was making the person tell me their DOB before I let them know what procedures were scheduled by their doctor. I now just have to ask them if they were born on a certain date. It makes the call quicker. To me that is a little illogical.
I have to learn all the major roads in Jacksonville this week so that I can link the customer to their nearest clinic. Luckily I know all the major roads in south Florida.
The free lunches are not good for my stomach. I get my first wages in two more weeks.

Yeah, companies have their illogical systems, but look on the bright side-- they may be morons but they're paying you! Hang in there.

Well... I got fired. They said that my people skills were bad and I can't multitask. Maybe we can't do call centers. I am going to try another one when I am not depressed anymore. If that fails then I might give up. I can't think of any other jobs. My wife says try upwork again.

I'm sorry that did not work out for you. Please try something else - the demands of a call center job are not for everybody.

Good luck!

That's quite unusual. I've never, in my life, been asked for my credit score during interviews.

What sort of company did you apply with?

This actually became more common after the financial down turn. Elizabeth Warren recently made news for calling this type of activity out as economic discrimination. Basically it comes down to people thinking that if you are poor or have gone through financial hardships you must either be irresponsible or a flawed person.

Sorry to hear that. I can see where a call center would be a major problem for an autistic. Don't be too depressed, realize you were able to land a job, that means there's more out there for you to get-- probably one that fits your skills and preferred environment better as well.

Rather unbelievably I just got offered 2 jobs. One is my old job of bookkeeper. A local guy was brought in as strongarm for the boss because of all the corruption. First the guy took over my really nice American boss's job. Then he started to fire everyone and employ only his family. He used to come into the office, put a big pistol on the desk and sit in the manager's chair. He was useful to get people to pay up but he studied my job and got rid of me and put his wife and brother and a web-page designer in my place. (marinatropical.com)
My page was much better. This guy has gone out of control and thrown the owner in jail. The owner has got out and wants to do a power struggle to get the business back. I heard thru the Haitian grapevine that the owner doesn't actually know the whole story. There is a lot to the story and the owner's Haitian helper got beaten up so badly that he returned home. This guy is a pitbull and the Haitian story is that he has taken control of the drug running that goes on in the marina. The business has been run down so I can believe the story as the pitbull has bought 2 jet-skis and a new SUV and other stuff. When the DNCD (DEA) came to the marina I had an idea of the corruption involved. They beat up an American - I took photos and was susequently threatened to be killed if they ever showed up.
The other job is because a guy just died and his business is floundering and they want me to do the books.
Basically I am being chosen for each job because no honest people can be found. I was fired for being aspie and now I am being needed for being aspie.

Wow, bizarre. I would look into the second job as opposed to the first-- no need to get dragged into a business that sounds like it may have drug running connections. Glad stuff picked up relatively quickly, I mean two job offers within a week of the last one ending, that's not bad right?

There's something fishy about a boss who puts a gun into his desk draw.

Try the second job.

Fantastic, madmick! I agree with other comments, go with the second job. The first one has lots of red flags that say "danger."

Well I was just about to start the job in the marina when I got a call the other day from a call center. She said that it was for a bilingual position and I told her that my Spanish was bad. I have never been there before. I went just to see if it was a joke. They gave me tests and psychological evaluations. I passed everything. I went back yesterday and they set me up for health insurance and a bank account. I start the 4 weeks training soon. I will be on the top wage of 3 bucks an hour.
I just feel really strange after my previous experience. While they were checking up on me I found that I have a SSN. That was strange too.

Three bucks an hour? What country are you in? I thought you were in Florida.

I left Florida in a sailboat and went to the Bahamas and met some nice people who we sailed to the Dominican Republic with. Last visit was 2006-7 where I had a job picking up trash in the intra-coastal with a guy with Downs syndrome. I wrote a program for the police and homeland security that monitored the movement of boats in West Palm Beach and the CIA tried to get me a green card but it never happened.

Oh - but in any case, are you willing to work for $3 an hour? Is that worth your while?

I don't mean this as a put-down.

I get 75 bucks a week from the government in my bank account. so if I get 120 from this job I am doing quite well. My rent is high - 220 bucks a month but I am living in a 3 bed in the city. My wife is getting 10USD per hour from a company in Houston. As we are not taxed we are saving more than we ever did in the civilized world. I don't need a car as the public transport is so good.
And the interviewer said that I can retire in 30 years time as they will be paying into my pension scheme.

LMBO - it's good to know you can retire at 92!
