Do you feel like your interests are too narrow?

My special interests are narrow by NT standards. That doesn't matter to me, because my interests are for my pleasure and not for typical people to dampen.

i know my interests are narrow and im totally cool with that. im obsessed with cartoons, certain bands, harry potter and certain movies (mostly horror). i cant exactly talk to everyone about them, they're all sick of hearing about my interests, but thats ok with me too. my boyfriend is the only person that is legit interested when i talk about these things or at least he tries to humor me and thats fine with me. i dont like talking to people anyway.

I prefer having very few interests, as my mind cannot stop racing as it is right now. If I were to have more I don't think I can handle it.

Video games, science fiction, history and music are enough for me (which is good, because 4 is my favorite number)

A lot of Aspies seem to have video games as their special interest.

i think its narrow-minded for people to dismiss your "coolness" and say you're boring because you're not interested in their interests. i think you should try to dismiss those types of people from your life.

and to answer the question, yes my interests are quite narrow, and if i'm not interested in something i will not pay attention. but i get hyper-focused on the things i am interested in. for instance, i'm really into welding and metal working. i love putting on my welding helmet, blocking out the rest of the world, and only focusing on my movements and the forming bead. luckily i'm in a workshop situation where there are other cool people who share this interest with me and think i'm cool too 8)

maybe it would be helpful if you tried to seek out specific communities that share your "nerdy" interests. like, my partner is obsessed with magic the gathering, and he found a local establishment where he goes to play with other people at least once a week. he has since made a lot of new friends and acquaintances. i know it can be really hard to seek out social interaction, but it could help you feel less isolated.

I don't really have any other interests. Every once in a while a new "big interest" comes along, which I invest a tonne of time into, but I usually get bored of it 2-4 months later. For example, karate was one of the things I had a huge level of interest in a year or two ago. I went to all the lessons and practiced in my spare time, I read the syllabus numerous times, I looked up translation manuals so I'd know all of the karate words in Japanese, I read the history on lots of different karate styles etc. Outside of the times where I get a new 'big interest' though, my interests are 'very' narrow.

I am similar to this. I kind of "rotate" through interests. I get on something very strongly for a few months, a year or two even, then it goes away and I have no interest in it at all. Occasionally these things owkr their way back, but not often.

I have my few core interests that are pretty consistent. Smoking weed, sex, baseball, football and listening to music.

I had a stage that recently ended where I was obsessed with survivalism. I loved all the shows- Survivorman in particular, started buying different outdoor stuff, tried starting primitive fires, learned about trapping and tracking, wild edibles, medicinal plants. Then just as quickly as it started it stopped. Now I have basically zero interest. Now the closest Id get is car camping.

Somewhat, yes. I don't usually talk about my interests of old TV shows, videotapes and vintage magazines, postcards and newspapers to NTs. I will usually talk about my music choices, hiking, family life, school life and current TV stuff to NTs at school.
Hardly anyone in these days still owns a VCR as VHS has been obsolete for years now. I will continue to own a VCR until the last one dies. Not only is it better on my economy (why watch "Clueless" or "Top Gun" on a special edition DVD for $19.99, when you can go to Goodwill and buy a copy for 99c, or less?), but I also enjoy on the home-recorded tapes, some people left the nostalgic 1980s and 1990s commercials in the broadcast without pausing them out. We'll never hear those classic jingles again, so I enjoy watching old TV material.
While vintage Life, Saturday Evening Post and other magazines go for large prices, usually only the senior citizen crowd cares about those things. I enjoy the nostalgia that I never got to see for myself - all of the vintage ads and articles.
Postcards is also a topic that NTs probably wouldn't care about either - as no one really sends those anymore. But vintage and antique postcards can be found at any antique store, many unused, some mailed with a written message. Some of the messages are really interesting.
