I also walk rather fast, everyone I know walks slower than me. Furthermore I tend to walk even faster when someone walks next to me. It's like I unconsciously try to avoid walking next to someone. I prefer to walk in front of or behind others. The latter is more uncommon for me because I tend to pass the other person soon, so I usually walk in front of others. It is difficult to control that because I don't do it on purpose. Fast walking is my natural speed and I find it hard to walk slower. It seems to make me more tired, I don't know why, maybe because it's not only walking but also controlling myself and my walking all the time.

I walk pretty fast.
I always find myself stuck behind slow people.

When I’m walking on my own, I usually do it as fast as I can without getting exhausted. I simply have no reason to walk more slowly. Besides, I feel less vulnerable, though I’m not sure to what extent this is realistic. I did it when I was thin, too, a lot of years ago, but, now that I’m ridiculously fat, I guess I’m a bit harder to stop this way, and I might have a chance to knock down a potential attacker with my sheer momentum.

Me too, and I get irritable if anyone blocks the pathway.

+1 fast walker

Walking slowly makes my legs tired. When I have to walk slowly I get agitated.

Fast walker myself. I think we have a trend here.

I also like to walk fast. Difficult for me to walk next to someone. I don't like slow walkers in shopping malls. Neither does my partner: he zooms around shops even faster than I do. I am only a little slower because I like to look at the stuff I'm buying before making a hasty decision, but I hate walking slowly. I like to zoom my trolley past others in the aisles like I'm on a race circuit.

I've naturally fastwalked (it's a word now, right?) since I was at least a teen. It almost feels like self-medicating, similar to eating spicy food (yay for endorphins), but beyond that it is simply very soothing. When I'm in a crowded area, it's like non of their effect sticks to me; when I'm alone it's like I'm flying. It's like roller skating fast...without the potential for rink rash.

The reason why I prefer pedestrianism over cycling is mainly because most cyclists in Portland like to think of themselves as better than everyone else just because they have bikes and that perspective is something I want to avoid.

Why deny yourself the benefits of cycling because the majority are hipsters?
If you want to ride it does not have to be by their standards.

While it is true not all cyclists in Portland act the same, many that I have come across have said that cycling is only for people who can afford bikes and are willing to commute on bikes.

That's really sad. When we were thinking of moving there in the early 2000's, it seemed there were a *lot* more creative people who were accepting of all forms of diversity. Now I keep reading of the same (white, cishet, professional) gentrification that has hit San Francisco & much of the Bay Area during my lifetime.

There are plenty of bike snobs here too, I don't care what they think or how much their bikes cost.

I tend to walk fast. I have been told it makes me look "angry."

When there are lots of people around, I will look ahead and plot out their anticipated movements to see where the fastest route will be. I hate getting stuck behind slow people, especially a group of people who spread out where I can't get around them.

I build up a lot of momentum walking so if someone steps out in front of me it's physically hard to slow down. If I have to walk slowly, I wobble and lose my balance a lot more.

Haha, good song for that. This is the one I think of:
