I would bet that it is this way for every person.....short-term memory being less efficient under stress.

Mine has gotten a bit worse over the years. It was never good. Fortunately, it doesn't really affect my work, except when it pertains to short-term hassle (i.e., having to look back at things).

If they would test me for a memory deficit, I might fail under stress--especially if it involves having to remember three certain words five minutes later amid an ongoing conversation.

Yes! I'm rubbish at exams because of my p&*s poor memory, which is really frustrating as I tend to have a really good grip on the subjects, on the whole. I often feel like I have mild dementia, it gets really bad sometimes.
