it's what i do. :rambo:

I just tell people about it directly, if I think they need an explanation as to why I am the way I am.

The only people in my life who will have to know are my employers, family (and even that will be selective) and the one or two people that have stuck with me over the years.

Nobody else needs to know.

As for disclosing traits, I'm not so sure I could do that without disclosure. I think "Why?" would be the thing I would not be able to answer without disclosing a cause.

I'm not saying Social Communication Disorder should be a blanket diagnosis. But those of us who display less obvious symptoms, and are mostly affected by anxiety in nearly every aspect of life but able to live independently otherwise, we need a different spectrum name. So we still be on the Autism spectrum, but can be defined with something that sounds a little less...fancy. I think that would make my life a lot easier when having to disclose my condition to someone. I do say "anxiety disorder", or "panic disorder", but I'm not sure if that would explain my quirky personality. But I do believe I have ADHD as well, which I do have a lot of symptoms of.

You pretty much described me there....

I also only tell my employer and family (not all know) and if it becomes a problem in social situations.

I like ASD better than Assburgers, straight up that dude had an awful name and it's just a ring around the neck of already disadvantaged people. People take Autism seriously, they do not with Asperger's.

I don't like the word aspergers, but I think it unfortunately does suit the condition. being at the brunt of a crude joke is just like the rest of life in a neurotypical world.

I agree and the thought just made me laugh a little inside. I don't know why. I just laugh a bit to myself when something just rings true to me. Does not have to be funny. But I do laugh when something hits that 'truth nerve' inside.

Is that weird? It makes me wonder if I laugh or have expressions like that at the wrong time.

It just sounds so melodic.

The actor who starred in Titanic was born with some forgettable clunky heavy German name much like "Hans Asperger" before he changed it.

According to http://www.nndb.com/people/581/000023512/

he was born: Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio.

Although that site also lists him as straight, so I don't know how reliable it is . . .

I use Asperger or autism, if I have to (hospital and other), so I can explain my communicative style and needs.
Otherwise I just ask for things to be told in a more concrete language or whatever bothers me.

I do, though, consider wearing some kind of autism badge/charm/bracelet - just in order to point out to people, that you can be aspie AND well functioning in the greater part of ordinary life.

no I don't think that's weird, dark humor is probably the best way to describe something that is silly in a solemn way. I used to think that I didn't really like comedy because I'm too much of a serious person, but lighthearted silliness isn't always the funniest way to joke around :)

Fortunately for OP, the compartmentalized west comes up with absurd quantities of new acronyms for everything pretty much 25/8. At worst you might simply need to popularize one...

This would make astrophysicists rather cross... (upon turning to Google at their desks)

Could have sworn that I read in Wiki that he was born "Leonard Homrig" or something unglamorous like that. And I had always thought that he looked more German, than Italian. So the fact that he DID have a German sounding name made things suddenly make sense-and thats why the factoid stuck in my mind. But just now I looked him up in Wiki, and it agrees with you. So I dont know where I got that from. My bad I guess. Lol!
