As for money and such? Ah, "wealthy family" is the best way to put it. I can basically just do whatever I happen to feel like doing at any given time which often includes buying stuff at random as I'm a total impulse buyer. I'll end up buying new games or something just because I've been bored for like 10 minutes. Kind of a bad habit, but I figure, it's alot better than people that go out and buy really absurd things like private jets or some damn silly thing like that. I also travel, mostly to anime cons (I get into cosplay and all of that) whenever I spot one that's within a sane driving distance (travel by plane can be WAY too much of a pain if I have to do it alone... talk about overwhelming! I've gone to cons that way before, but yeah, it can be tough to deal with, especially as the airport near here is rated #1 worst in the nation, I hear... and I can believe it, completely). But yeah, pretty much set as money goes, that's for sure. But I did not earn any of that on my own, that'd be my father and stepmother that did that.

Shameful!

Hardly. There's simply no point in working in my situation; and no, the "give back to the community" idea doesnt mean a blasted thing. How much do you think standing in front of a cash register all day (the only sort of job I was ever capable of) is "giving back" to anyone? Particularly since it's a job that can be done perfectly well by easy to use machines. Working at a Wal-mart or McDonalds when I dont need to is not just pointless, but idiotic.

In addition, the spending means little either. If I WAS working.... I'd still be spending just the same. The difference? I'd be miserable most of the time. That'd be the ONLY difference, really, and that the money would be spent alot slower. That's all. I'd still buy the same things.

Besides, who are you to judge? You say such a thing without even knowing me.... or knowing the various things I DO with my free time other than my two main interests. I visit my mother on most days, and my grandmother on some, not always, both of which require a drive that can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes each way. I visit friends as well once in awhile, and they're free to call on me if they need help with something, or if they need transportation to work on a given day; typically this involves hazardous weather conditions preventing them from walking there. Which also means DRIVING through hazardous weather conditions, ALWAYS at night, just to assist. Actually I seem to do a TON of driving, come to think of it. Were I in a position of having to work, there would be no time for these things. And even just going to anime conventions... friends are always welcome to come with, just for the heck of it.

People SERIOUSLY overvalue the idea of having a bloody mindless job, just because society says you MUST have one.... even if the job is beyond useless... or you're not worth much. This, frankly, is a damn stupid idea.

And lastly... me getting a job when I dont NEED to would be me taking up a job slot that could be used by someone that DOES need to. Does that sound like a very good idea to you?

I agree old school games are a lot more challenging than newer in general. I love Metroid, Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, bla bla bla.. as far as that stuff goes ^_^

And not having a job isn't bad. Ideally all repetitive boring jobs could be automated and everyone could be free to persue more liberating creative things... like a Star Trekkian future. Too many people are stuck in society's current worker drone mindset to understand that though.

Misery, on the whole holding a job vs. not holding a job...Between caring for my family and working 1-2 days per week, that is all i can wrap my mind around. Who cares who has it harder--the full time working moms or the stay at home moms. I have been a full time working mom--in earlier days before life got so overwhelming--and also a stay at home one. I am now somewhere in the middle of working/staying home, with my part time jobs, and any one of the scenarios has its upsides and downsides. My husband's job plus my part time ones support ourselves and our children comfortably.

If my husband were unable to work and i had to support our family, i would find some way to do it...but it is hard enough to get done what i need to do. I do hold 2 part time jobs, but i have difficulty with organization, the juggling of schedules. (I enjoy the actual work. One of my jobs is at a historical society which is awesome for all the cool stuff that i get to work with; and the atmosphere is very aspie friendly.) But the thought of needing to work full time is something i put out of my mind pretty quickly figuring i'll cross that bridge if i ever come to it.

If i did not have to hold a job for financial reasons, and was happy living that way and found purpose in life...why not? No judgment from me on that one, Misery.

For someone like me with SPD, busy is bad, and idol is ideal. In my case as long as I have money to spend or daydreams to create, I'd rather be free anyday than working at a job. Even at work slower days go way faster for me than busy ones.

No more shameful than me drawing disability really, I don't know Misery circumstances but if you can't work, than you can't work. You have to find someway to get paid. Anyway I have nothing but free time, occupied by playing video games and watching movies. I don't like it some days and I don't mind it others, I wish I had a part time job really.

How and why is it shameful to take money from his parents when they give it willingly? He cannot even be accused of "living off the taxpayer". And why would he live in squalor if he doesn't have to? His parents earned their money and at least part of it will go to him anyway.

If you took a sh***y job you would then be shamed from taking it from some poor bugger who actually needs it

No need to be ashamed of your situation, it's not your fault that others have a harder life, and making yourself miserable won't improve others' situation.

You don't come across at all as some rich-boy entitled arse either, you seem sensible and honest. And content, that's rare even at my age!
