One of my Special interests has taken over
The George Barris TV car was made from a 1955 Lincoln Futura Concept car.
This one I'm making a mess of is modified from a '67 corvette coupe. But, I made sure to have as much George Barris in the design and paint job.
George Barris
Carl Casper
Tom Daniels
Syd Meade
In no particular order, those were great car designers.

They were But, I can't take all the credit. The Burton Batmobile was also based on a Corvette. Some say it's a 1970 version of the Stingray 'vette and others the 1980 model. And, in the late 60s and 70s, it was drawn as a generic sports coupe with a (very) few frills.
But, yeah.....been hard being away from my baby today. Tues, Wed and Thur I also have to work out of the house. All day too....>shudder<
But, I come home and do something each day. Tonight I went in and started to sand down some paint problems. Will have to repaint the hood a bit. Then clean the final pinstriping......I just may get this finished before I go to my parents for the holiday.

LOL, now that I think about it Batman was probably my first special interest, when I was about six years old. I remember being extremely upset when the TV series was cancelled. After that I had to settle for cutting Batman comics out of the newspaper and hanging them on the door to my room, in chronological order of course. Also had a small collection of Batman toys. I can't remember if I had a Batmobile or not, but it would have been awesome if I did.

Some of us are still upset the series was canceled and consider the movies with the exception of the 1966 one pale imitators. But then I think of all Star Trek reincarnations after 1968 are pale imitators.

Hahahaha, well, that's why this is such a grabber for me. Comics and Batman (and Spider-Man) in particular are special interests as well. So, I get to have a double whammy of Special interests: Model building/customization and Batman. It's just too cool!!
The '60s TV show was so well done. Cool stuff for the kiddies to enjoy/Cutting edge campy satire for the older folks.
Sighhhhh.......fun times, me and me TV.......

OK, so, I had work this week and was not at home so much. It was a good and bad thing. The bad part was that I kept thinking about it all during my work time. Did give me something to focus on while on the subway >shudder<.
The good thing that was it made me wait between a few steps and that let the paint dry much better. I almost ruined it by not being patient enough on painting the body.
Below is the final test fitting before completely finalizing the body paint and finish out the engine.
Hopefully I can get done by the early part of the week. Gotta really sand and buff out the body. REally want that polished, wet look.

First of all, this tells me that your special interest has *not* actually taken over! You clearly are able to balance it with other aspects of life.
Second of all, the model is looking awesome.
Funny thing about special interests: When you are really submerged in one, the description closely matches what athletes call "being in the zone"; creative types call it something else. Those who meditate have their own name for it. It's a state of intense, productive, very enjoyable focus. So long as it doesn't take over in a way that is too detrimental, it is seen as something to strive for by those who can reach it. It seems AS/ASD people simply have an easier time doing so (sometimes too easy)?

Ummmm, that's because at my age, I have come to realize that I must at the very least show up. But, yeah, it totally preoccupied my mind while away. And, from the moment I got home until going to bed and all day yesterday and today, it is all I have done for two days. There are a lot of other things piling up that I should be doing.
So, let's say that I am not drowning. But, treading the water has barely kept my nose out of the water.
*edit*
Oh, and I was so deep into detailing the model yesterday, I missed a very important phone call. The phone was right next to me and I didn't hear it. So, I'm hoping this is on the backside of this and can be more engaged with family during the holidays. Leaving in a week and will not have any of my regular toys with me. Just the laptop.

I see, so it does get in the way sometimes - my apologies for assuming otherwise. If I may, when you are deep into a project do you feel a sense of joy or is it more like pulling out a splinter (stopping the discomfort of not doing it)?

I take no offense. As a matter of fact, I assumed I had given enough information to make a good determination. And, I'm still new. So, nobody really knows me yet.
Actually, it can be both at the same time. This round is a perfect example. The first project was burning a hole in my being by not being done for at least 1, maybe 1.5 years. When Thanksgiving came, it was the perfect opportunity to make the companion piece. But, I burned through that in a day and a half. Then I really wanted to try something that popped into my head and it was just sheer bliss since Thanksgiving Eve. Well, accounting for some frustrations with the body paint job, that is. But, I will be glad when it is done. I'm at that part of the project where, if it goes wrong, it's boned. Makes me a bit nervous. This is the part of the project that I always screw up. I'm very anxious about the clear I'm putting on now. Screw that up and there is no way to salvage it.

This is exactly the kind of thing that happens to me! My mum seems to think its when I am stressed, but I cant see a pattern like that emerging; I always have my special interest, but sometimes it takes over (as it has done with you) and I just end up spending time working on it, not doing anything else that I should be doing. When it is like that with me, I stop actually enjoying it though, and it becomes a complete obsession.
It's a bit like that at this point with this project. But, it's like that when I get to the end of any project. It's always the end that flummoxes me. But, what I like about the models is that they are there to see when you're done. I do like to see them in their display cases.
What's sad is that I'm already planning on turning one of my motorcycles that's in the same scale as this car, and make a Batcycle out of it. And, I have a 1/8 scale Corvette that I may do this to at some point in the future. Those are big models. And, I don't have a case or space to display it. That bugs me like an itch that won't go away. I even have one of the big car's engines built, just waiting for the space to finish it. That's when it eats at me.

Yes, but the trouble is with my special interest is that it never ends. You, for example, have the model cars to display when they are finished. But my special interest involves writing lists, and I feel like they are never completed, and so I constantly go back to changing them and re-arranging them etc.
This special interest is also ongoing. I just have parts of it able to be displayed. For instance I've also purchased new models to build. So, I built 2, bought 7.
But, it is enjoyable to have the individual items able to be displayed and looked at.
But, this and art in general, are the only special interests that has that type of modularity to it.
I seem to work in finite bursts on a special interest and then burn out due to the intensity I have employed. Then I move on to the next one. It's cyclical.

Well, it's finished. The only thing to do is spend a little more time buffing and polishing a few areas. But, here's pics to hopefully entertain you.
