Yes I have two currently, though at the end of this week it'll be back down to zero. One's going to graduate and the other is going to move across town to live with his girlfriend so seeing each other after that is going to be a pain and I see the friendship eroding very quickly. I'm not sad though, I enjoyed their company, but I've never been a fan of having my personal growth entangled with the growth of another.

Most of my life I've had a model of two "best friends" at a time, and then a circle of people who I considered friends because I got used to them being around with one or both of my "best friends".

Of course, there were also times in my life when I had no friends.

Now my best friend is my fiance- since we moved away from our home-town so I could go to university, I have a few people who bridge a gap between friend and close acquaintance (people who I am comfortable sharing most of my thoughts with, but I don't see outside of school). I am very close still with some of my old friends via social-media and I see them when I get a chance to go home.

Honestly I really like it this way. When I really need to talk to someone I have my fiance and social media, and I know that I'll get to see my close friends a few times in person when I'm on break and have no other obligations to worry about.

I have a decent amount of online friends and one best friend. I only talk to 1-2 people a day though.

kind of! i hardly see any friends irl because im at a new school thats totally out of my comfort zone, im really distant when im at school. most of my friends are over the internet or at a different school. i dont have any problems having internet friends though!! you dont need to worry about dumb things like people thinking you look weird or if you said the right word orif that person is sick of being around you. over the internet you can draw each other pictures and send jokes without most of the awkward scariness ! ! :D

The last I had a best friend was probably 6th grade. We lost contact a few times including permanently about 7 years ago. He dumped me for new girlfriend who eventually dumped him. No surprise: think Sheldon Cooper's OCD times 100. In hindsight, he might very well have been an Aspie too. I was probably the only semi-normal person who could tolerate his obsessions with Audi Cars and Baseball.

No friends or even casual acquaintances. I've never used skype in my life and the last time I had even a brief conversation with somebody on the phone other than close family must be pushing 20 years ago.

I do. She is a girl a couple years older than me who I know from my social club. We like to talk and watch movies together. I love her, but a lot of the time I feel like we're not as close as we "should" be. I don't really feel very comfortable talking about person things with her because for some reason I don't think she'll understand. Our interests are quite different, and sometimes I feel like I can't relate to her that much.

How important has friendship been to you? My son is 14 and has a diagnosis of autism - has never had a "friend" really. Just because it's been important in my NT life maybe it's not as important to him? He doesn't seem unhappy or lonely. Is it better for me to leave him alone and leave this alone as well?
Thank you for your advice.

I haven't had any friends in years, and it became obvious to me that the people that called me "friend" actually wanted sex and that was all. When it was obvious I would not give them sex, they never spoke to me again.
I have met a few people recently that I enjoy talking with (they share one of my current special interests) but we never seem to connect outside of the interest group. It is difficult for me with other people outside very formal circumstances. I wouldn't mind a friend or two, so long as I could get the hang of what that means ok. I don't enjoy people being demanding of me though.

Nope. I have college 'friends', people who I only speak to at college but that's it. I have no online friends, I'm pretty much invisible online, like no one ever really notices me. Same in real life. Everybody says I'm funny and all that jazz but nobody is actually ever friends with me.

When I was younger, there was someone I considered a "best friend" but I've stopped using the term.

I wish I had that kind of anonymity sometimes. I recognize you Tetris, you've changed your avatar though, used to be the giraffe. Did anything ever come of the activism project that you were working on?
