I don't think there's a story behind that green face, if that's what you're thinking. Although, it's possible I just don't know the story! It is in a different style than the other ones. I have seen one like it on other forums that use a different set of emoticons.
I see it as just a big grin.

Considering that this is a forum for those with ASD, shouldn't there be some kind of "emoticon guide"?
You can mouse-over them for a description, but they're kind of subjective.
is supposed to be laughing out loud (amused/happy), but I feel like it looks like nervous laughter, like you'd do when you're kind of amused but also kind of uncomfortable.
is supposed to be "confused" but I feel like it looks more annoyed (perhaps, annoyed by something being confusing)
is surprise, but I feel like it only works for being pleasantly surprised (whereas the text equivalent is more neutral surprise).
Maybe we should have a survey.

Side question: Why do some people call them emojis? Is that a different thing?
I was curious on the exact definition, so I
looked it up. Turns out "emoji" is a Japanese word for "pictograph" or picture-letter and the similarity to the word "emotion" is a total coincidence. Emoji refers to any little pictures used as part of the text (originally, they were special text characters made specifically to look like that thing, but actual graphics also count), and not necessarily emotional expressions, so there are emojis of things like toilets and eggplants. Emoticons are special characters, graphic icons, OR ascii/text art depicting facial expressions.
So these are emoticons:

These are kaomoji (face-letter):
^_^ >o<; T_T
These are emojis:
These are both emojis and emoticons:
