You can make your own almond milk using 1.5 cups of raw almonds, 4 cups of water, and a blender. Let this mixture sit overnight. Blend it when you get up, and you've got some almond milk. Sweeten to taste.

Thanks! I'll have to try that some time. An article I read recommended almond milk, but I wasn't sure where I could find it other than a specialty store and I was imagining it would be expensive.

I don't know about AS, but my GP told me to cut out the milk and most of the "mushy" grain (mashed potatoes, noodles, rice) after I had horrible sinus problems for six months and an ear, nose and throat specialist was no help (he said he could do nothing for me). So the GP suggested that. It cleared up within a week. I also noticed my stomach was flatter so maybe it caused bloating? Not sure on that one. Anyway, it did help my sinuses, my headaches and my sleeping. I have no idea where she heard that, she just told me about it and said try this and it may help. That was long before I knew anything about AS. It was about 1998 when that happened. I still stay away from it because I still have the same issues with it. For me, it is not just wheat, it's all grain.

Can you eat wild rice? I thought that was more like a vegetable? I didn't know that about rice, as I am a rice addict. I eat Basmati rice, long grain regular rice, and brown rice. I noticed that when I avoid pasta, bread, cheese, and potatoes, I get better sinuses and reduced or no headaches, too.

Yes! That's an obscure Tennessee Williams reference. Around the time I was dx'd with AS and joined WP, I was re-reading the play and relating a lot to Laura Wingfield's character. It was the first thing that popped into my head to use. You know, this would make an interesting thread in the "Getting to know each other" forum: Explain your name.
