I do know people with autism who have sleep issues like that. For myself I wake up several times during the night, but can usually fall back asleep relatively easy.
So do I. There have been times when I've looked at the clock, half-asleep, and panicked because I thought it was one in the afternoon or five in the evening rather than one or five AM. There were many times when I was younger when I'd wake up at midnight or one AM, only notice the minutes, like 46 or 52 or something, and panic because I thought I was late for school. I'd turn on my light, throw my clothes on, and get to the hallway before realising everyone else was still asleep. These days I always find I have more fun things to do than sleeping, so I don't get to bed til two or three AM, then I sleep to noon or one PM, which makes me feel kind of lazy and worthless, but I just don't seem to have the willpower to get to bed earlier.
