I don't mind the library. It's OK. I do tend to get a bit bored in there after a bit, mind.

I hate the hobos staring at me like I'm doing something wrong when I look for a book.

I'm also afraid to go into the back shelves of my library, because there's no one to hear me if someone decides to approach me in a violent manner...

If you're looking for peace and quiet the aisles are mostly deserted at most branches. People just seem to go for the free the internet.

Really, the library is such an underused resource. Before I spend my own cash on books I check my local library to see if they have a copy. Half the time the book is available. If not they can order it for you. Ditto for films. I've viewed hundreds of classic film titles courtesy of the library. Plus the free events, and research tools.

The positives, are endless.

Large University libraries are great.

I like having my own copy of a book though - its nice to have a bookshelf full of books, and in reality, most aren't that expensive. I use my library much more for the journals and periodicals - but since I'm a student, I guess thats understandable

I like the library and I work in one, too.

I go to the Library to browse the magazines and journals, that way I don't clutter my place up with old mags.
Also I rent movies from the library, if it is a movie or book worth keeping then I'll buy it at Border's Books.

Somehow, I heartily agree with both of you.

What annoys me is that, it doesn't seem how big the library is, it never seems to have all the books I want. Well, the State Library does but that's just a tease since you can't borrow from there.

Yeah, me too. For me, the ideal is the low sound of the heaters/air conditions, without any human beings making unnecessary or loud noise.

What do you hate about libraries?

I also love them, but get aggravated when people sit in the chair I like.

Actually, I agree with that. By background noise, I mean human background noise. If it's being made by a machine or something then I tend to notice it even less than NTs usually. Maybe it's because it's normally more repetitive. Like the windowscreen wipers things in cars, they don't bother me but they bother other people I know.
It's people talking, sniffing, sneezing, breathing, coughing, moving, fidgeting that I can't stand.

I always sit in the seat at the back in the corner near the window. If someone else is sat in it then I prefer just to sit on the floor in between book shelves. It's not appropriate but it's better than sitting in a different chair.

Yes. Today I was trying to check out some books with my mother's card but the lady behind the desk said I couldn't do that. I told her it was okay and that I had my mtoher's permission. The lady said that my mother had to be there with me. I went home and had my first full blown meltdown in years. You also have to jump through hoops to get a card. You have to show them a letter adressed to you and then a year later your card expires and you have to go through the same crap all over again. I also can never ever find anything I'm intrested in.

I like libraries. At school, I go to the library at lunch to read. However, there's an evil librarian there so I try to avoid her when I go there. I was at the public library today to do homework and there were hardly any free tables and it was noisy and I had trouble concentrating. I do love to check out books but I get overwhelmed with choices sometimes and I end up checking out more books than I can carry.
