My son has only ever had one ear infection. That was at age 7 and I attribute that to the swimming pool. He's 9 and *knock on wood*, he doesn't have a history of any other infections. He does have ASD.

Having an ear for infections topic

I still have ear infections. I had so many as a child I was frequently absent from school. There were no tubes for ear drainage in those days.

I wonder about whether my dyspraxia was caused by disruprted balance due to problems with infections damaging my ear canals. Maybe my cerebellar fucntions were also disrupted because of this. I do not know, as there is no scar tissue that would point to a definite cause.

Poor coordination can be caused by ear infections. That's what someone has said on here anyway.

Ironically enough, I've started getting inner ear infections again. :? Since my sinus allergies have basically become constant, I'm no longer getting enough drainage. All through Christmas and New Year's, for about 3 or 4 weeks, I was having the infection flare back up again, then land me in bed. Then I'd feel better. Go for awhile, then start feeling worse.

I haven't gotten any meds for it though; shelf-version antihistamines don't make a dent in my allergies and I don't have insurance to go get a prescription for antibiotics.

Yay, crappy (non)healthcare system of the US.

Now thinking, I have not had an ear infection since I left the US (Dallas area)...I constantly had them when the weather was colder...I live in tropical weather now, and have not had any since I moved here...

Yes, I had alot of ear infections when I was young. My right ear drum burst.

I didn't have any for over 15 years, then last year I got another one in my right ear. Trying to keep them clean and dry so I don't get another one.

I've only ever had two ear infections. The first one when I was 8 and the other when I was 13...both caused my flying in an aeroplane. I have no idea why so don't ask.
I've had severe problems with my sinuses, though...ears, nose and throat are all connected so I guess thats relevant...or not. :?

I had lots of ear infections until the age of 15. The last one was horrible: I had to spend 3 weeks in bed and my head was aching all the time

I STARTED to have ear infections after i turned 15, still have them but i believe now it's just because my dogs lick me there. XD yuk. i wonder what's so interesting in my ears <_<""" it never was a serious problem though...
I often have ear problems (problems = they hurt for about a week and i hear noises) caused by airplanes or... subway.XD and faster trains (and even cars) in general. and hairdryer. it seems im the only one o.o
it doesnt make sense to me.

I have permanent hearing damage in my left ear due to chronic infections as a kid. Even after I had tubes put in my ears and my tonsils taken out I was still getting then. It's not the worst though, I can understand people over the phone with my left ear thanks to that vs. my right ear where everything just sounds like noise.

I can see how ear infections might cause balance problems, since the body's perception of balance is controlled by the semi-circular canals in the ear. But dyspraxia is a motor planning problem (the major motor planning area is the pre-central gyrus in the frontal lobe), so unless you had an infection in your brain, I don't see how ear infections would cause dyspraxia.

Never heard of this. I had them, as did my sister, but our parents smoked and that is a huge risk factor. My children are both diagnosed with autism and neither of them have ever had an ear infection.
