I am an Asian woman with ASD (would have been Asperger's). I was diagnosed very late, and I spoke with my grade school teachers, and while they sent me the speech therapy and repeatedly invited my parents in to talk because they felt I had a "problem" - the reason why they never thought of ASD was because I am Asian, and its normal for Asian kids to be more quiet and studious.

As a teenager, I paid the price when I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar, and later Schizoeffective Disorder and Borderline on top of that when they misconstrued "special interests" with mania and melt downs as "mixed episodes" or "psychotic episodes."

And off topic, I hate the terms "POC" or "WOC."

I had some pretty bad speech delays. Since my first language was Spanish they just blamed all of my speech problems on that. Because of other coincidences I could never get officially diagnosed. I was still unofficially labeled with autism and most people saw me that way when I was in school. I'm actually happy I was never officially diagnosed.

I'm not too sure I like the terms POC or WOC either. I just don't know who fits into that category. Would a dark skinned European or someone who's mixed race, but physically and culturally white be POC? I just don't know.
