Used to walk on my toes when I was a kid - at least to about six. Not so much now, but I sometimes have a little trouble walking in winter because of hyper-tight ligaments in the backs of my legs. (Which I had since I was a baby.)

Another interesting question: What excuses did you use for toe-walking. One of mine was, "I'm pretending to wear high-heels."

I once made up some outlandish tale about having been in ballet.

Some people thought I did it because I wanted to be taller...

I used to walk on the balls of my feet. I used to also walk on my heels backwards.

My favorite shoes are a slip on sandal with a heal, they feed the urge.

I like shoes that don't crack down the middle eventually because of the way I walk.
When I was a kid and i'd get new shoes, I would always get excited and claim that THESE were the shoes that were gonna make me stop toe-walking...(never did) I even took to wearing ugly orthopedic nightmares just for fun...

now all I wear is crocs.

Toe walking is good, especially when in socks.

Question: were Neanderthals digitigrade?

I was more a heel walker than a toe walker(I have flat feet).
I still get leg cramps and "charlie-horses", they hurt like hell.

They walk on their toes.

I doubt it.

i used to get terrible leg pains growing up.... would sit and scream all night... they lasted several years, i recall... not every night though

never associated it with AS or anything. i did walk on my toes a bit, but i don't really know whether it was anything out of the ordinary.

i still do... when i pace while waiting or something... but i'm still not sure about whether i do that any moreso than what is considered ordinary...

though... something funny i catch myself doing a lot:

i saw at a behavioral neuroscience seminar, something that caught my eye and made me wonder about myself... apparently, mice have a natural exploratory behavior before their eyes open ( or just after, i forget) where they post on one of their back legs and use their forelegs to kind of pivot about and spatial orientation while they explore their environment. they dont really move far cause the behavior is really restricted to just this kind of circular movement... pivoting...

i do this EXACTLY.... i almost started crying when i saw that mouse doing it... whenever i'm bored and having to wiat on something, i'll plant my right foot down and just kinda pivot around it and this is how i "pace"...

maybe im just weird

I don't think your wierd...

When bored or waiting for something, I often go onto balls/toes (whichever you prefer for the pedants amongst us) and I guess bounce on them. I always go up stairs on balls, and having being thinking abou tthis watched others, they seem to go up stair flatfooted...

When you think about it though, it makes much more sense to walk on the balls of your feet!
Dogs and cats do it, admittedly they have evolved different bone structure, but still. In that position you are better prepared for 'fight or flight' kind of responses and can most likely react more efficently to things occuring around you.

I find that when I falk on flat feet, I am very clumsy and I stomp loudly or shuffle my fet.
I am much more graceful on my toes.

Well, I suppose you could say on the balls of my feet and toes. But she definately noticed! She would tell us to quit tiptoeing around and walk like a "normal" person!!

I would often walk on the balls of my feet. Still do from time to time when I am waiting in line or bored.
I run best on the balls of my feet. I sprint really well this way, but it is very tiring.
I have completely flat feet with no arches so my feet tend to cramp up otherwise I would probably do it more often.
When I was little I loved going all the way to the tip of my feet like a ballerina would do and walk around like that for a while.
