I was professionally diagnosed recently but realized I had it years ago and just couldn't get a professional evaluation.

I have been diagnosed by a mental health professional, and Social Security tested me for it, and approved me for disability for my autism and comorbid conditions.

Every time I read the thread title, I keep picturing members getting literally diagnosed on this forum but I know it means "how many members on Wrongplanet are diagnosed professionally by someone?" Not how many got diagnosed on Wrongplanet  I wonder if any NTs here are reading it the same way as me. Sometimes how something is phrased, people including NTs get a literal image in their head so they get confused at first.

I was diagnosed at 5 with HFA/AS, and rediagnosed at 21 with ASD Without Language or Intellectual impairment.

Me to. Literal thinking :D

I wouldn't have thought it was literal thinking....it has to do with syntax and how you link up the words in a sentence.

Aren't both possible interpretations interpretations literal (as opposed to figurative....with metaphors or analogies or other similar things)?

I'm professionally diagnosed with Autism and ADHD.

I was diagnosed today!

I officially have Aspergers.

I'm glad I am in the UK where they haven't stopped diagnosing Aspergers.

Professionally diagnosed in 2014.

.

But prior to that, because I'm an adult, I was necessarily living in the "suspect" category for a period of at least ten years. By which I mean just the "awareness" of the suspicion. I've been living with the reality my entire life.

The only reason they quit diagnosing "Aspergers" in North America is because the DSM V merged it in with autism. Aspergers Syndrome is basically just autism without language delays, so it makes sense.

Professionally diagnosed at age 54, with Bipolar I and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-NOS and Asperger's, and later diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder and PTSD. Growing up in the 1960's and 1970's, autism was not even recognized in educational circles, even though my teachers continually harped on my lack of sociability.

Diagnosed by a specialist after preparing notes for months in order to receive the most accurate diagnosis, I was exploring other possibilities as well so I wasn't sure whether I was autistic or not or what the heck was wrong but I had a large swathe of reasons to suspect it was a major part of everything (many things intersect with mental stuff though so you need a professional to be certain imo), never expected to be diagnosed because I was unaware just how affected my life had been.

AS at age 16. My psychiatrist knew quickly during meeting me. I didn't care to talk to him much, keeping my attention on my handheld games the whole times.
