My preferred method of socializing: standing/sitting in proximity to other humans who allow me to listen to their conversations. ;-)

I use a weighted blanket (18lbs) all year long to calm down and sleep thru the night. Its not to hot in the summer time as long as I am not all hot and worked up before I lay down to sleep for the night. I am being more vigilant and keeping the A/C on when its hot and humid despite my wife complaining about the electric bill being high. My mental stablity is more important than the bill and we have the $$. I have seen they also make weighted lap blankets and vests for all ages from young children to adults. I got my blanket from Mosaic Blankets. They have a great website. When I get stress and near meltdown, I will go lay down in bed and coccoon myself in my weighted blanket and within a few minutes I am much calmer and can rejoin the world again. Mike

Sometimes when I don't want to get up, almost like making myself disappear. I don't really do it nearly as much as when I was younger.

I do this sometimes, in the morning if the sun is shining through the crack of my door. Also, I find it comforting to wrap myself tight in a blanket if I am having flashbacks or dealing with the fallout of a meltdown.

Does anyone else do this? I like hiding under blankets and in small, enclosed spaces (as long as I have immediate access out; if I get shut in, I get claustrophobic and panic). Under blankets especially, I feel safe and protected, and I find studying the pattern on the fabric, or the wrinkles and folds, or the stitching, to be very relaxing. I like doing it when I'm with groups of people at my or someone else's house, usually my parents' friends, because I can listen to the conversation without having to make any effort at using correct nonverbal social cues; no looking at people, no nodding, smiling, or asking inane questions, I just get to listen from inside my coccoon, and it feels great. Anyone else relate?

Yes. I used to love making blanket dens to hide in. But yes. Like you say. As long as I can easily get out and can breathe so I don't feel enclosed in, I also feel safe under my blankets.

Yes, definitely. I have 4 to 5 blankets on my bed, some are my furbabies but are still partially on me. And we have multiple blankets and quilts that stay in the living room. Apparently my whole family likes being wrapped in blankets.

I also really enjoy small spaces like reading nooks and tents. I have a hanging tree tent for adults for the backyard to read in on nice days.

And Startrekker I totally get looking at fabric patterns to be calm. When I'm super stressed but don't want to be at home, I go to the fabric store and look at quilting fabric. It always calms me down. I love quilting and picking out complimentary fabrics is very soothing for some reason. And tracing the embroidery on a quilt with my finger when wrapped in one is soothing too. I love the way embroidery thread feels, it's always really smooth and sometimes puffy.
