Anyone ever changed their most major special interest?

My most enduring special interest has been animals, particularly cats. For me, pets aren't just a special interest. They are a lifeline in hard times and a life enhancer in good times.

I have always been interested in some culture or another. Currently, it's Russia and Uzbekistan, because of my interest in Denis Istomin.

I've had the same one for about five years now. It's lasted longer than any of my others, which have all been about 2-3 years at the most.

I've had various special interests but the most enduring was horses. I lived for them. They were my world. I had a serious accident the year before last and one of my horses died because of it. People say it wasn't my fault but I know it was. I had one job, keep him safe. I didn't and he died. I cannot go anywhere near horses anymore. I re-homed my remaining five and donated a lifetimes accumulated tack, books and other horse related items to Riding for the Disabled to sell to raise money. My life is empty now. It's sad but necessary. I do not deserve horses.

I went from astronomy to politics.
International Relations and Geopolitics to be exact.

I have a handful of similar special interests that rotate.

For me it's weird to go more than 3 months with the same special interest. Right now it's Dinosaur Train and Odd Squad. I've had so many others I couldn't possibly list them all but here's a few of the biggest ones from my lifetime:

* Minecraft
* Poptropica ( a web game from my childhood )
* My Little Pony
* Vocaloid
* Road systems
* Metalcore ( a form of music )
