Yeah I'm a huge gamer. If it's an RPG available in the west chances are I have it. I just got back into Final Fantasy 14 but I'll also play a little Far Cry and Ratchet & Clank sometimes.

Long post to answer everyone thus far

Hi Yes,

Gamer here too, also favour more involved games rather than pick up quick and play games.
Have been mainly playing MMO Games since 2001 like Everquest 1 + 2, Jumpgate, EVE, Ryzom, Rift, Wow, Anarchy Online, Vanguard, and all the rest lol.

I still get a complete and utter disapproving aspect from my mother with respect's to gaming, however it's now entirely clear to me that my whole gaming career(lol) has been nothing less than a way to manage my Asperger's.

Hi there autisintp! ( I like your user name. I'm assuming Intp is your personality type?)
I'm with you. It has to be more meaty / has a good story to keep my interest, which means a lot of the FPS games are not ones I pick up. I've tried MMOs but I just get bored very easily with them. The grind is just something I can not get into XD But a reason I tend to pick games that are RPGs/ have a lot of things to do in them is a) I'm a broke college student, so if I'm dropping 60 bucks on it, it better be worth it. And b) they have a high reply value.

I would say, my mom has accepted that myself, my brother, and dad enjoy video games ( She prefers the mobile games) and that we will play them. She's more surprised at the fact my brother has a 1600 dollar gaming PC that he built from scratch.

Yup, always been something of a gamer, though I'd vacillate between console and PC gaming. Over the last couple years I've really gotten into pinball games, to the degree that it might be considered a "special interest". Just with a quick glance it looks like I've logged about 1,000 hours over the last 2-3 years. I would really love to be able to get out and play some actual (real world) pinball tables but some of my issues make that very difficult.

Trekkie83, I have a few games I like to play on PC but I'm more of a console gamer. I like playing things like Starcraft and the Warcraft RTS games on my PC and a few games like Banner Saga. I've got a PS4 and I love. it

And I've seen the pinball games, but never played them. Are they fun? And aww, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you will be able to go one day and play a few pinball games in real life. Maybe save up to buy one of your own?

I mainly play Nintendo games like Mario and Zelda games. Pokemon has been a special interest since I was 8 years old.

I wasn't aware of that ^^; I mostly just look through this forum.

I've never really been into Nintendo but I can respect what they have done for gaming. And Pokemon, I'm getting back into. Eevee is my fave though. I think cause it happens to be the closest to a fox outside of Nine tails.

I've never played LoTRO but I've heard good things. And I play both male and female characters. I think it's cool when people play both :)

I am a gamer, but I’m not a heavy gamer. When I play board, dice and card games, I prefer filler games and fairly light games. Games that are easy to understand and that I relax with and have fun playing. I’m not the least bit interested in points, I just wanna have fun playing the game. When we play Ticket to Ride, for instance, we pay no attention to the points around the board or after the game. We just have a lot of fun getting the right cards, laying down tracks and planning our routes. When my mother and I play we easily get so into the game that we frequently ask “whose turn is it?” because we’re busy planning (this happens in nearly every game we play).
I also like video games, but I am very picky. I’m all about the enjoying the world I play in, and I’m not into hard challenges. Video games that are difficult to play are not my thing. Games that fit me perfectly are Pokémon, Rune Factory and Fantasy Life. I like Dragon Quest a lot too, as well as some racing games and puzzles like Tetris and Frogger.

I wish I had more people around me who want to do board, card, and dice games but they're not into it at all. But it sounds like a lot of fun :) As for video games, I'm getting back into Pokemon again, although when I was a kid, I hated them cause I got stuck and couldn't advance to the next area.

I remember Pokemon when it first came out and the last one I played was Silver I believe. So getting back into it now, I'm just kinda like... why are there these things and what was wrong with the original stuff XD

I'm heavy into the RPGs as well :D I've currently got Fallout 4 in my PS4 and it's been fun thus far. I've been mostly just running around and exploring Boston. I also just pre- ordered the collectors edition of Horizon Zero Dawn, as it looks to be an amazing and epic RPG. I mean... robot dinosaurs come on. :D

Gaara, I'm the same way with Gamestop ( as I'm a console gal) but I'm saving up to get a PC/ have my brother build me one. So I'll be with you there soon. ;)

Hey Kuzunoha, I'm the same way :) My dad got me into the nerdier side of things, including gaming. ( He let me and my brother play Halo and then we moved onto Warcraft 3 ) As for RPGs, I'm curious which are your favorite, and what adventure games you'd recommend. Also I've never heard about the last one, what are they?

Wolfram87, I saw Ark on Steam and am wondering if it's any good? And ahh Bethasada, I'm in love with them and the Elder Scrolls along with Fallout (although Fallout 4 is kinda disappointing me a little). RTS, I will always be a Blizzard/ Starcraft/Warcraft gal. FPS...I'm so bad at XD Most of my collection is just RPGs. Any RPG series you really love?

And hahaha Sims, I've played it a few times...and ended up trapping my Sims in different ways... ^^;

Yessss, In Chains, I think they are awesome :D As stated before, Nintendo isn't my obsession/ area, but I'm a Bioware diehard ^^; I've heard a lot of people are loving GO. I, however, have yet to do it as I know the moment I do, all the things I've been needing to get done, I've yet to do it. Oh Fallout and Elder Scrolls are some of my favorite games ever :D

Nist498, I'm the same way. 90% of my collection is RPGs or games with RPG elements. Hence my refusal to give up my Xbox 360 ;) Also, loving the OUAT quote in your signature. I'm more of an Evil Queen fan though but Rumple comes in at a close second, tying with Emma.

Which I never read, because of my pertinent question on this topic - what is the fascination with "gaming?"
To my understanding it achieves nothing, and I'm curious as to why those of you who do it enjoy it so much or can get so into it. Other forms of entertainment, storytelling for one, have been used throughout the centuries and civilisations to inspire, to provoke, to teach, to communicate, to facilitate culture and philosophy.
There has been much commentary on the purpose of storytelling in human consciousness.
Does anyone question why this gaming is so entrancing? Why bother to do it?
As I said, just curious.

C2V,

For me, it's both a form of entertainment and a form of escape. When playing a game, I don't have to think about my life or the problems in my life. My life is not the worst it can be but, as someone suffering from depression, having a physically disabled father (who is also mentally ill), a lower middle class family with debt problems, and finical problems of my own / being in college/ a stressful job, an escape away from my life = a good thing that I need. Plus, it also a way to play pretend and do it in a socially acceptable way. I know, recently, when I was playing Fallout 4, I crafted a character and started to create a life for her and pretend I was her and running through a wasteland and being an awesome hero.

There's also the element of it being a stress reliever. Particularly with a violent video game. Like I said, I work a stressful job and going home and taking out my stress on pilixated enemies is very helpful and cathartic for me. (Same thing with working out)

Also as for them being entertainment, many video games now a days have complex story lines and often make you think about the politics of the world/ talk about other cultures and things. Two examples I can think of off the top of my head for having plots like this would be the Metal Gear Solid series and Spec Ops: The Line. These two games tackle the politics of war (Metal Gear during the Cold War) but also what it means to be human/ what loyalty is. Spec Ops also talks about mental illness as well.

I understand that they ( video games) aren't for everyone, but for me, it's just like movies and comic books, another form of literature and storytelling but in an interactive form that I get to connect with and with games like RPGs (role playing games, which I play a lot of ) I can go back and make many different choices, along with getting a different ending because of those choices, unlike a movie/show/book/comic, where the ending is set.

These are the reasons I enjoy them and play them but I'm not sure that helped explained it ^^;

I got back into games a little bit last year when I treated myself to a PS3. Racing games have always been my favourites, and games with a story. I can't really play FPS games as they give me motion sickness.
I recently replayed FF7, then played Heavy Rain which I found really fun and novel and am now working through FF13 for the first time.
I have also gotten drawn into the world of the dark souls games recently. I love the worlds and concepts, but how my controller hasn't yet gone flying across the room is surprising to me!

I prefer games where I can stop and think, plan things out. My current favorite is Europa Universalis IV but I love Crusader Kings, anything by Sid Miers, Cities: Skylines, etc. I did spend about 3 years in World of Warcraft but I don't enjoy it anymore.

I forgot to add Okami to my influential game list. It's such an awesome game.

I used to be really into the old StarCraft and WarCraft games. My console gaming was mostly Nintendo-centric but I'm mostly into PC gaming now (as it tends to be cheaper).

As for the pinball games, there are two main ones, The Pinball Arcade and Pinball FX2/Zen Pinball. Zen Pinball / FX2 is composed of completely original tables that couldn't be created in the real world. While I like the depth of these tables, I find the physics quite annoying. The Pinball Arcade, on the other hand, is composed entirely of recreations of real world tables. Since these tables are older (70's-00's) they often aren't as deep/complex but they can still be a lot of fun. I really like TPA and prefer its physics (though there's still plenty of room for improvement).

To answer your question, yeah, these games are fun (at least for me). I was never into real pinball in the past because they were quarter eaters that sat in overstimulating arcades. Discovering the virtual ones is what got me hooked. I was amazed when I realized how deep some of these games can be. If you have any interest in trying them, both games I mentioned offer at least one free table (at least on Steam/PC, Android, etc.).

As for me getting to play real world tables, that's problematic on a few levels. I've got numerous health issues, including agoraphobia, so I don't get out much. There's also the fact that it's getting harder to find tables still up and running to play and, those that are, tend to be in overstimulating environments. There is an annual show nearby in a few months that will have a bunch and I'd REALLY love to go but I don't know if I'll be up to it. I really hope I am! And, as you mentioned, I have toyed with the idea of trying to get my own table. Though, I kind of worry that I might get bored just playing the same one.
