What is an Obamaphone? Is that one of those Safelink things you can get for free if your income is low enough?

I did not know that was Obama's initiative.

You're correct. It is a lifeline phone, sometimes referred as an Obamaphone, even though the lifeline program was started by Reagan.

If you have to buy a card to activate it, and can get a card at somewhere like Walmart why not buy the card at the electronics desk and get one of the folks who work in electronics to help you activate it? That is most definately what I'd do.
