I really love adult coloring books. They help me when I get overwhelmed places or if I'm feeling anxious. I usuallly carry one in my messenger bag with some colored pencils in case I need it.

Just some contact with the natural world calms me down very effectively. After we planted some trees, I get an absurd level of enjoyment from watching the leaves shake in the wind. Lack of movement and too simple environments stress me out, so now that I can look at something complex and beautiful, I am happier.

Is anybody else like this?

I'm a visual spatial thinker.

When I was having a rough time in my teens my psychiatrist (who happened to be Chinese) taught me to visualize a Zen garden (oriental garden) in my head and to quietly go there when I'm really stressed.

It's not a cure-all but my mental Zen garden has been a lifesaver for me over the years.

:D
