The thread title is a quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, a book by Douglas Adams, which has been televised and also made into a movie.

Thank you for that clarification, I was also puzzled by the reference.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish!" was the goodbye note left by the dolphins when they evacuated Earth.

I am coughing from the smoke from all of these burning martyrs!

And now we have one more.

You make a scene to announce that you are "following the lead of Tallyman and Fnord..." and are taking your marbles to play elsewhere.

You forgot to mention Olive Oil Mom as well!

Trouble is this: The folks whose "lead" you are "following" (to leave WP) often left the place for the exact opposite reasons that you are.

You are leaving because your too thin skinned for all of us bullies on WP.

Fnord, and OOM, both left because all of us WP folks are too thin skinned for THEM, and that we all are too quick to accuse THEM of being bullies!

You said that you couldn't take the "vitriol" of this place, but you're "following the lead" of Fnord who was a major fountainhead of vitriol himself!

Sorry if I sound "snarky", but all of you drama queens/kings who make histrionic exits from WP are all making contradictory complaints. So its hard to take the complaints coming from ANY of you seriously.

Tallyman returned to WP as Lantylam.

On the other hand...

Okay I said what I said above, but then I browsed the site.

I do hafta admit that on two of the subforums here there is indeed "a lot of vitriol".

I can see why someone might wanna take refugee from WP (atleast until after election day).

I thought Tallyman left because of problems with the forum itself and nothing being done about it. I've seen staff in other forums quit for similar reasons.

Those "certain members" are a reason more to stay. :ninja:

A) I am very good at focusing on the constructive stuff here (and at putting the rest into brackets). And there IS a lot of constructive stuff going on here.
B) Behind the more exuberant rants is generally a bigger anxiety or frustration problem, and some on the spectrum cant see that very well.
C) I strongly believe that good posts can have an impact on others, including in seemingly hopeless cases.
( I believe this because I know it.)

To naturalplastics: I found Fnord s posts quite O.K. So please refer to some threads or posts.

Can't blame anyone for leaving. It's increasingly sounding like a good idea, and I've found WP mostly worthless and prone to creating more problems than it solves.

The main problem I've found with WP is that it's become too repetitive. Stereotypically, aspies are "supposed" to "enjoy" repetition, but I've found over the last few years I've been getting really f*****g sick of it. Still, online forums are like crack to me, so I can't help but keep coming back here.

There's still lots of good stuff on WP.

I wish the parents forum were a little more active, though. There are some great people there, who give great advice.

The PPR forum could become great----after all this Trump-Hillary crap is over.

This place has been invaluable for me. I now know I'm not alone.

I've only been here for about a year and it became too repetitive about four months into that.

There's definitely good stuff, but my experience has been at a rough guess a 1/10 ratio of good to bad. As I've started to find other places for the good stuff, WP looks less and less appealing. I've also started to realize that this place is actively making my opinion of other aspies more negative, though it's still not at the point of outright hostility it was when I first came here.

PPR has been a vile cesspool of vitriol and hatred the entire time I've been here and I don't imagine that could ever change unless moderation is willing to take it more seriously. Together with L&D it reflects poorly on this community and it would probably be a net positive for WP if both of those forums were deleted.

Someone said his wife was sick and he wanted to devote more time to her. That's just hearsay, though.
