A lot of user names just look like a string of random letters to me.

Yep me too. I find it easy when they chose a word or name-like word, but my brain scrambles when someone is called kvvviiirrhth or something.

So far, I've built up a vague idea of who a few people are. Much the same as in "real life".... :(

^^ You're the only one who has Schroeder in his/her avatar.

Do you like to play the piano?

Yeah, that does happen to me sometimes especially when someone changes their avatar image. I can see how face blindness would make that worse though, because a lot of people use images of faces as their avatar.

I have no such issues IRL, but on wrongplanet sometimes I remember the avatar more than the person.

I know what you mean. In reading that, I realize I'm the same way with most of the students in my classes.

You're easy for me to remember because I was about your age when I first started forums. Which seems like a hundred years ago. Actually it's probably not the years but the mileage. Some said I was well spoken and mature for my age and I'll say the same of you.

Thanks.

At first I remembered Ezra because of the poet Ezra Pound.

I've been haunting this joint for over a decade (used to have a different name) and it was literally years before I started to remember names and personalities. I used to just reply to whatever subject was being discussed, and paid no attention whatsoever to the people doing the speaking. It pays to try to remember who's smart, and who's kind, and who's a jerk, though. It also pays to know which members have one-track minds and will try to twist any conversation into a discussion of their pet peeve or their special interest. It saves a lot of headache and banging of one's head against the wall (figuratively or literally).

I often see members here I don't recognize and I realize they have been members here for a really long time. I also lose track of who posts what. I might have a selective memory about a certain user but that's it but lot of others I know nothing about. But I seem to remember someone better if they were rude to me or mean or if I had a conflict with them online. But if I forget about it, then that means it was not that important and I wasn't as butthurt so I moved on and have no memory of such thing or I might remember but can't remember who the person was.

I remember people best by their avatars, and it's confusing to me when they change them, but I also remember the personalities of the posters, and I know, as YippySkippy said, who the nice ones are, which ones make me bristle, which ones I'm confused by because of the inconsistency of their posting (sometimes friendly and helpful, sometimes hostile and cold), etc. I've always remembered Ezra, despite the fact that he changes his avatar semi-regularly, because he has a unique perspective here, being one of the few level 2 autistics who can share experiences from elsewhere on the spectrum. I remember SteelMaiden for the same reason.

I used to have trouble with that when I first started in 2004. I find it easy to keep track now, because I know everyone here. I find it a bit harder when a member doesn't have an avatar.

I'd actually never heard of him before! [wiki, wiki] I want to track down some of his non-Peanuts music now.
