i wouldnt say the abuse caused me to have aspergers but i think the aspergers caused the abuse i suffered.

I dont think abuse causes autism but makes the chance of abuse higher in individuals with autism.

Well, somewhere there are studies that show evidence that "early intervention" increases the success of autistic kids. I would think that Esperanza is using "excellent parenting" synonymously with "early intervention" here. I certainly believe that fostering communication skills and other like skills is key to raising a successful autistic kid. We do know that autistics that lived their lives in institutions rotted in there, That's true for a lot of disabled people. You end up less able to do anything if left alone.
I do think that is different than abuse causing or worsening autistic traits though.

As far as abuse goes, my husband thought his problems were due to PTSD and it wasn't until our son was diagnosed autistic that the he realized that his traits were also autistic. He figures now that he was beaten and neglected because of his traits, not the other way around.
