It's true - everyone does hate me... HR told me
I am really glad I made that post. ^_^
In my area jobs are limited. And frankly - my skill set is grossly undervalued. So that is why I know I have to do what ever I can to save my job.
Having said that, my contract is bleeding money. My mgr is very aware of the hours I work and I think my company banks on that. Burnout is very common. He is trying to force the program head to pull work from me, but the problem remains that I have a very good relationship with the customer (wow eh?) and I think I am reconised for the work I have done with that project. Sadly, my mgr sees no value in that work, and over all, my position and the nearly 200k documents we manage is a source of frustration to him. That other project is his only focus. He wants those hours paid or unpaid, to go to my primary duties. my staff is on leave for several months and my request for a replacement, temp, was granted then pulled back. He is using it to save money on his buget. KNOWING i already had too much on my plate, i now have to assume her duties on top of my own. i should say that he hasn't got a clue what we do. He was an electrician turned engineer.
Without saying too much, when my company won our contract most of the former employees stayed on. VERY drastic changes had to be done, up to and including telling people they no longer had free, unfettered access to documents. My position was unfamiliar to people in my location, and here i was saying they couldnt have what they could always get. While I repeatedly asked for my mgr to send out a communication about my job, it didn't happen. I am absolutly certain that some of those people are angry because of that, and others because of the issues I described above.
I don't think being friendly has worked for me. I stayed to myself today, interacting, and putting on the show only a few times. my mgr has told me in the past that mrgs at his location view me favorably, and I have worked hard to be on full mode fak it till I make it at the parent location (I am there 3 or 4 times a year as part of another project I manage). I get people to go for lunch, make sure I do the nt thing, remember kids, favourite activities, health of family, of most of the staff. Not just mgrs. I go out of my way to socialise with my coworkers too. I try here but it isn't easy. Mostly men, no where to go to lunch, and even if I did,, I don't want to waste the time... an hour for lunch means it is an hour extra before I can close my laptop for the day. I feel I have a okay relationship with those staff seated near by. Even overhearing the office next door saying my door is closed when I need to concentrate. I feel that the best thing I can do is remember to smile, and keep small talk to a minimum and remember to spend the extra time with the frivolous stuff in emails that make people feel better about not doing a good job. OH and someone said to go out of my way to say good work. that is on my list for tomorrow. I do have my email templated (I get 70-120 a day) and can add a few generic statements. That way I can just select randomly with pats on the backs. I was very careful today in emails and included my mgr in several where I wouldn't have before. I was shocked at his reply email. HE specifically told me reviewing formatting was correct was not my job. I was to send it to the client in the deadline and leave quality to look at the formatting after the fact. (which they have repeatedly said is not their job and they don't have the manpower). This is a direct contradiction to the program head telling me that quality comes first. In my company, I am the last stop - focusing on formatting.
I read an article last night about a company in Ottawa (capital of canada) that goes in and works with companies that have employees within the autistic spectrum (the US would have said Aspergers - here my dr calls it spectrum), primarily the positions with the government. Looking at my colleges, in my location (45 mostly men) alone, I would say at least 3 men - possibly 7 are in the same spectrum. Including the fat headed jerked I mentioned this all began with. They have very different jobs, one hides in a secure area and doesn't talk to anyone he doesn't have to. Others are very passive. Has anyone had an outside educator come in?
I could talk to a lawyer as well. My employeer is required to accomidate me within reason and a lawyer could help identify what wo u ld help and what would be reasonable. i am aware that they have recently been sued and settled for unfair dismissal and another woman felt she was being harassed with unfair work requests by another supervisor under my mgr and they backed off her as well. I would be afraid it would make things worse for me.
Okay so half a book later I want to say thank you for reading :0)
