Does anyone else here struggle with washing themselves? Showers/baths etc. I find them really difficult and I'm not sure if it's a quirk or possibly something to do with ASD. I'm fine when I'm in the water, but I struggle with getting out and being wet and not able to completely dry myself to the standard I like. I can't stand the sensation of being wet. I don't mind getting wet in the rain but being naked and wet really bothers me sensory wise. I'm the same when I'm washing my hands, they have to be completely dry or I get agitated.

I hate being wet too. I even hate the feeling of sweating in the summer. I tend to wash myself with soap quickly and then get into the shower for about 30 sec to rinse it off. Washing my hair is a big deal and I do try to avoid it for as long as I can and still be clean and OK for others. For me I think this is probably a sensory issue.

I thought it was only me, I have trouble too, I can have a hard time showering, I can have wobbly legs, I can sit down, my shower is a tub too, but I can't sit down. The water can be itchy in some places when I get out, I have psoriasis, in the winter, I get really cold, I have a built in heater in my bathroom. When I'm showering, I need to leave my bathroom door open or my cat will meow her head off, sometimes she peaks in the shower.

I have no problem washing myself, save for the fact that I never feel clean. I wash every day from 30 mins to an hour, using several layers of different types of soap and have special rough scrubbing gloves. Also, I always wash my hair. Drying off is a nuisance though - feels quite uncomfortable.

I don't want people to think I'm a smelly, greasy hobo. I'm ugly enough as it is.

The only issues I ever have with bathing or hygiene are just when I get too absorbed and hyper-focused into something but I'd never would leave the house and or allow people to see me that way, it's just hard to pull myself away from things sometime and I'll neglect other stuff too like eating or sleeping.

I need to wash my hair every day or it will start looking like Nick Nolte after an all night bender.
