Well done TylerPaul!

Statistically, once you get past day 14 there's a 90% chance you'll stay off.

Those first 2 weeks are crucial.

Man, it's been a long time since I've been able to post here. I miss it here.

Anyway, P-we, I completely feel you. I really need to quit smoking and did about a month ago for a week and then something happened that upset me so I lit up again. Since then I can't seem to put them down again but I sure need to.

I personally think it's harder for an Aspie to quit bad habits or addictions then NT's but that's just my opinion. I didn't see if you're an Aspie or not but I know it's hard for both either way though. However, sometimes I think telling ourselves it's hard just makes it harder, so I don't know.

I wish you luck and hang in there.

I tried switching to the patch once, but I couldn't keep the damn thing lit!

Seriously, though, congratulations, and stay with it - it'll start being worth it once your senses of taste and smell return, and you start to notice all the extra money you've got all of a sudden... :)

I'm alergic To most adhesives in band aides and the patches. Have to use paper tape, when they suck blood out of me. I put up with the patches, but had a really hard time keeping the things stuck. I swear stopping drinking was easier then this habit. Hopeing that with more stress release tools I'm finding here, I can make another go at it and make it. Seems they do think that nicotine does help with concentration. With my mind race is a help in staying focused, like speaking and writing. The good news for me is I'm on a med that is getting very close to helping the mind race to be a little more stable. I'm focused and hence I can really write for the first time, ever.
So all this info is good, because I am going to "kick this in the butt". Err someday, just don't push, I have a few more cigars to get through yet. Bad excuse.

Congrats to all of you who are non-smokers (even in your first couple of days). I smoke a lot less when I'm doing a 'hobby' sort of thing that requires my hands, and if it's something that takes moderate concentration it seems to help. That's all I can say. I've had on & off periods of smoking over the years & am certainly not an expert!

Thank you everybody for all the encouragement - it really does help! Just completed day 2 - so far so good - bar a couple of snarly moments earlier (they deserved it!) today has been pretty easy.

I really had to stop - I'm a terrible addict with stuff like this. Prolly only would need about 5 a day to satisfy the cravings but I'm driving hundreds of Ks a day at the minute and have been going through 30-40 without even noticing.

Bless you all! :P

Nice one to you too! Packed that in and all. Not so bothered about it actually - so long as it isn't mixed with tobacco. That would be exactly how I ended up back on the fags after 2 and a half years last time.

17 days - if you were a heavy MJ smoker you'll be pretty clear headed round about now, yes? Go Scrulie :)

Thanks! :) Yeah I'm feeling a lot better, more in control, less moody!

Went down that road for a long time, give me a yell if you like. I don't preach. But this is stealing a topic, so maybe later.

Here is an excellent website. In particular click on the article with the Algorithym in it.

http://www.atypon-link.com/AAP/toc/jsc/2006.

Renee Bittoun is the Australian guru of smoking cessation and she edits the Journal of Smoking Cessation.
