One needs to be really careful about office Christmas parties. Now that the depression is behind us for now, the amount of companies throwing them is increasing and they are getting more extravengent. Not 1980's-90's "Werewolf of Wall Street" extravagant but not the modesty many are used to or have gotten used to.
If you get to drunk whatever mask you have worked so hard for will come right off. Some companies do throw these parties to see how employees will act when their guard is down. If you do not attend or attend and sit in a corner you will be judged as not a team player and standoffish.
This year presents a big opportunity for things to be said about politics that people when sobered up will regret. As some people have used Trump's election to commit hate crimes, some people and that includes bosses will feel free to bring back the "grab em by the p****" attitudes of yesteryear. But most companies I believe be it because they generally do not like it or do not want to be sued will still look harshly at sexual harassment and assault.
Office Christmas parties are tough for anybody to deal with, autistics more so. I hope all of you who have to attend them come out unscathed.
