When I was 14 I was sent off on a language-exchange visit by air. Coming home, there were frequent stops for passengers and fuel, and weather delays. I had to exchange tickets at least twice, but felt quite on top of it all. The only thing I forgot was to call home to say I'd be late, but the airline knew where I was.

The last time I went hitchiking, around '71, I went from Denver to Winnipeg via Calgary, putting posters up along the way. I made my planned destination all four nights.

There are many travellers on the road, so there is a subculture that makes it easy and normal to interact to the limited extent necessary.

Travelling with someone can be a blessing or a curse.

These days, I can't get enough sleep anywhere but home, and might have a hard time not offending the uniformed goons at the airports. It was staying home that wrecked my head, though.

How do other forums members deal with Crowds? I traveled home from University yesterday, I had to take two trains; one to Cambridge and one to Stansted Airport. At Cambridge I took a Crosscountry train (train operator in England), this train was packed to the brim due to ongoing strikes in London and a line closure.

The train was five carriages long (usually about 300 people), I would estimate there was about 600 people on board.. People were standing in the aisles and at the doorways. I didn't manage to get a seat so I had to stand in the doorway with about 50 other people for 30 minutes.

This was almost unbearable for me but I managed to get through it which was surprising. I was debating getting a later train because I didn't see myself being able to cope with such a predicament but no I got through it. The people on board were a tad pushy though which I didn't like, there were a few passengers near the end who physically pushed their way on board just the doors were closing, I thought that was somewhat unnecessary.

The more crowded the place, the less chance of a dangerous disturbance, except a soccer crush or similar problem. Since the best thing to do is to mind your own business, if there is no room for a book or a gadget, I just meditate as much as possible.

Yes, whenever I have travelled often it has been by myself, something that my maternal figure(my mom) often finds odd and strange. Yet, every once a while my mom will bring up the idea of travelling somewhere and when I mention that I wish not to go with her and enjoy the journey on her own, she indicates she can't travel on her own by herself. Yeah right, when she went to Ireland on her own.

Almost exclusively. To 14 countries, at least a dozen US states, across town, and yes, even to the restroom. Alone is good.

I ignore them. I walk around them and wait for them to get out of the way or just go the other direction. If I am in a place where there is no way to get around them, I move slowly and take my time to avoid bumping into people and move with the crowd. I learned this skill as an adult when my mom told me how others work with the crowd instead of trying to go through them so that solved my bumping issue. I never knew people moved with the crowd, I thought they all went through them.

I love to travel alone. I also need a hotelroom for myself, so travelling with NT friends is hard, because they want to save money by sharing rooms. And I don't.
My favorite destinations are USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, because of the wide open space and the magnificent nature. I'm not a fan of big city's. Love roadtripping, all by myself, I'm my best company!
South East Asia is perfect for travelling alone too as a woman. It's save and the buddhist culture has *zen* effects on my brain.

Love to read many more Aspies like to travel!

The only real crowds I have to deal with are in planes. I take some calming pills (oxazepam) and put on my noise cancelling headphone. I'm not a fan of crowed events, clubs, big city's, so I can avoid a lot. Give me miles and miles of empty roads surrounded by nature and I feel finaly free.

My area has more roads per capita than anywhere else. I could set you up with a completely private campsite in the woods, with nice scenic hikes and a friendly neighbour/host. That's where I go when even small-town life gets overwhelming.

I drive a "microcar" with three seats removed. I have not had to install the passenger seat for years. It has a nice bed in it now, but I'm turning it into a full stealth camper, fully self-contained except for needing to stand up and walk around.

I'm used to comfort, so I stay in motels during roadtripping and I also love the little buzz of small villages. Last october I visited friends in Tennessee and we went to farmers markets, fleamarkets and even a haunted house! Allthough I'm terrible with light and noises, somehow I can do thrills when I'm really up for it. Allthough sometimes I closed my eyes during strobelights.

Whenever I have went on excursions or what some people call,"mini vacations" yes, I tend to travel on my own as, I don't like the idea of going with someone or such as, it makes me feel obligated to them in some sort of way.

I've done quite a bit of traveling, and almost all of it alone. I'd like to travel with another person, I think. They might be able to pick up my slack a little bit, help deal with hotel rooms, organize sightseeing, that sort of thing. Never have though, so, not sure what it would really be like. I think I end up missing out on a lot of things because I'm just unable to deal with people.
I've hitchhiked back and forth across the US a few times, driven across quite a bit of it, flew out to India at the drop of a hat and then rode a motorcycle across most of it, as well as buses and some hitchhiking there, too.
Dealing with crowds while traveling, I think it helps to have a plan to focus on. I'm not hanging out in the crowd so much as I'm moving through the crowd as quickly as possible. Then I don't think about the crowd so much.

I had to travel several times a year by myself for my work.
I went on the plane once but it affected my ears really badly, so after that they would buy me train tickets or if a corporate car was available they would give me that and a fuel card.
I really liked staying by myself in the hotel rooms, some were really five star and work paid for everything, including meals. 8O
I often thought it was a bit if a waste, when I could have stayed in a backpackers or something, but that's how it worked. :-?

I never traveled alone before in my life. I generally don't since I don't have transportation of my own. Also my parents fear for my safety alot so they don't really let me out alone. Going out is kinda a chore though but that's just me
