Why don't aspies seem to learn?

I can learn, I'm just a stubborn mofo.

I can learn academically, but I find that learning from real-life situations is different. I do learn from my mistakes and try not to repeat them, but I do so in a spectacularly extreme fashion.

Example :

On getting too emotionally attached to a girl and dumped : "the pain I feel now isn't worth the happiness I felt beforehand, so I'm never going to get into a relationship again since they all have an end"

On being taken advantage of by colleagues : "man is wolf to man, so I will do the same thing with them I would do with wild, feral wolves : avoid them entirely"

I harshly judge everyone I come across and I don't associate with anyone who even remotely acts like someone who has done me wrong in the past. I also avoid anyone who looks likely to bring unneeded and unwanted drama into my life. At this point I'm probably just as intolerant as the KKK. I give very few people the benefit of the doubt. Honestly I'm happier this way.

An aspie can't learn because they don't speak the same language as the majority's, literally and metamorphically.


Teaching unexplained contextualized materials or lessons to someone with context blindness. Of course! One would know how 'effective' that is!..

Academics aren't very contextualized, but real life IS. And the social realm is almost literally FULL of it.

We can learn alright, prodigious amounts of stuff. A library or Google Images in one's brain.

Actually NTs don't 'Learn' either. In the sorts of areas where people say 'Aspies just don't learn', NTs may have the brain wiring which makes the right thing pretty intuitive. On the other hand, the Autism Spectrum has the feature that these sorts of situations are ones where we have to 'Learn' to do it, in the sane way that NTs have to learn to fix a telly while a number of aspies developed an intuitive feel for how to fix a telly. Something one has had to learn always has the possibility of mistakes "Yet another boyfriend who has turned out to be a Cad", another enbarrasment from finding the wrong words get used.

It would, however, be unkind for my sort of Aspies to take delight or give censure to every NT who gets a belt of the TV set's EHT coil because they can never learn.

Remember, Autism is a Lifelong condition.

I can tell you we do learn. Some Aspie's have above average IQ's in the 120's, 130's, and even the 140's. Others just learn differently and their standards are not being met. There are programmes for autistic children, but there are too few. I was in one for general special needs and I hated it, I was put in with kids who couldn't even dress themselves. It felt demeaning and insulting.

NTs have a bad habit of leaving out key details. They are so important they assume you already know.
What works for me is to let them ramble on, and get the details I need later on. This avoids wasting time with all the extraneous stuff NTs normally ramble on about.

We can and do learn, we just learn in different ways and have to learn things that come naturally to most other people.

At least, I've *heard* that such things come naturally to to other people. Many NTs have really awful social skills and are rude, arrogant, ignorant and cruel, except it's usually on purpose, or if it's pointed out to them they think *you're being rude*. or their ego suffers and they mumble some excuse, like they're just having a bad day.

If there's one thing I can't seem to learn, however, it's to stop saying things that offend people because my words are blunt or shocking, usually because when I try talking calmly and rationally to them they don't listen at ALL. Then I get in trouble or get banned temporarily form "certain" websites.
