Personally, I don't like necro-posts/threads...

I don't know why you're so concerned by it. I don't think anybody else cares, in fact it annoys people when threads get necroed.

Yep...

Bumping-up old threads (necrobumping) is sometimes necessary if thread-content remains timely i.e., sometimes what's old is new again! From what's been mentioned on WP; if posters from old(er) threads are still currently active, then bumping-up old threads may be acceptable.

* To reclaim the original purpose of this discussion; that is deciding whether or not to 'REPLY' or to 'QUOTE previous posters in given discussion threads.

In threads with fewer than two-dozen responses (threads with fewer than 24 responses don't seem too cumbersome to grasp IMO), I can readily scan through posts, and would sometimes opt to select the 'QUOTE' a previous poster option (sometimes responses are very brief) - hence 'QUOTE' replies may help maintain continuity in threads.

In threads with dozens of responses, yet not too cumbersome in length/scope, it can be natural to opt for a 'POST REPLY' option.

Of course, most often, no responses are necessary (as the #s of readers of threads far outnumber the # of posts).

Sometimes, it's necessary to do the opposite of bumping-up old threads; as current discussion threads can become way to confusing to understand; hence the necessity in beginning new discussion threads.

ADDENDUM / UPDATE: Applying 'QUOTE' options to posts may help maintain that healthy dynamic e.g. continuity in discussion threads - whereas, over-applying 'REPLY' options too often allows disc. threads to become derailed (too confusing) in scope.

* How many feel that getting into the habit of applying the 'QUOTE' option (just as readily as the 'REPLY' option) can go a long-way in boosting continuity in often tangential discussion threads? - even yielding a much needed dynamic here on WP?
