Its just you.

.

Seeing as someone has already agreed with FM , it's clearly not just him.

No, it isn't.

Whether on the phone, or online, when someone asks you that question even most autistics understand it to mean "what are you engaged in doing this afternoon/morning/evening?" (whichever it is).

In that case, it's an imprecise question.

naturalplastic wrote:
On the phone its implied that the REAL question is "could you drop what you're doing to come over, or is what you're doing too important to drop?".

I would never read that implication from that question.

If its asked here on WP (or on most social websites) its just to give you an excuse talk about your life at the moment ( like what hobbies you're into).

Possibly, due to context but I would assume that most people would ask "what hobbies are you into?" rather than "what are you doing at the moment?". That to me, makes no sense whatsoever.

Maybe I'm taking the question too literaly but I agree.

sometimes, you get information you would otherwise not get by asking "what are you doing at the moment?". If someone asked me "what hobbies are you into?", i would probably say "i guess reading and going for walks". If someone asked me "what are you doing at the moment?", my answer would be more specific.

It's just not the sort of question I would ever ask. I would say "what are you doing this afternoon" which could elicit an interesting response - "I'm going to the beach to walk the dog and then I thought I'd try a new recipe" - rather than "what are you doing at the moment?" which could get you an irate "I'm in the middle of cooking!".

it is not a question i ever ask because it seems intrusive but i have noticed when people ask me, they get an answer i would otherwise not give because what i am doing seems so irrelevant.

Paying bills, homework, watching Fox news, laundry, getting errands ready for tomorrow, vacuuming. (I know, exciting.)

I think I need anger management as this thread is really starting to irk me.

I've already asked iliketrees if she thinks its an autistic thing , she said no, but I'm beginning to think it is as more than 50% of posters have answered a question that wasn't asked , then again a self proclaimed NT has done the same thing , so maybe it's a personality type.

A lot of people genuinely just don't read things they don't consider important, in this case the original post and all of the replies, as well as which area it was posted in. These people have just gone to posts since last visit, seen the title, and thought they're in the forum games section - no further information needed. Since they won't read the replies there's nothing to stop this :lmao:

It's common in the general population, people filter things out. For example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SampleSize/com ... le_survey/

There the instructions section is rarely of use, so most people didn't read it.

It's not an autism thing at all, it's very common to not read things fully - like how pretty much nobody reads the ToS before downloading things.

A lot of people with autism doing something doesn't mean they're doing it because they're autistic, it may just be because they're people. That's what I think is going on - they're displaying a common human trait, their autism isn't causing this.

Having some gin and cranberry juice whilst perusing one of my innumerable notepads full of disjointed ideas and random tangents of research and seeing if I can dollop any of it onto one of my ongoing creative projects.
