Thanks for the helpful post. I downloaded MyFitnessPal. Everything is ok but I'm confused about something. In "Calories Remaining" section I set my goal to 1500. Then I added my meal (74 calories). Now the calories remaining is 1426. I want to burn calories, so it should be 1574, right? And when I add exercise it should decrease, so I can reach zero and finish my daily goal. But this is doing the opposite, why? Sorry for my bad English.

Hey,
No problem, your english was perfectly clear. I think you may have gotten confused as to the calorie remaining goal on MyFitnessPal though. The calorie remaining for the day is how many calories you can still eat for the day rather than how many calories you still have to burn off. So if your calories remaining says 1500, and you eat your meal (74 calories) you now have 1426 calories left which you can still eat. When you hit 0 you shouldn't eat any more if you want to stick to your goal. If you do a workout and burn 100 calories then you now have another 100 calories that you can eat that day to stick to your goal, so your calories remaining would then be 1600 rather than 1500.

On my app it shows the calculation for the calories remaining related to your goal. My goal per day is 1710 calories so for me it is

Calories Remaining:
1,710 - 982 + 62 = 790
(Goal) (Food) (Exercise) (Remaining)

So for you, if we were to consider your meal of 74 calories, and for example a workout of 100 calories it would look like this:

Calories Remaining:

1500 - 74 + 100 = 1526
(Goal) (Food) (Exercise) (Remaining)

That's just the way it works on their website and app, I don't think you can change it to work the other way but I'm not entirely sure. It may be worth checking the settings or talking to their support or forum to see if it's possible if you'd like to change it.

Thanks, I got it. But i still have a question. Do i need to balance food and exercise calories. Or can i lose weight if i just dont exceed remaining calories?

This is my current log:

1500(goal) - 932(food) + 413(exercise) = 981(remaining)

And my food has more calories than exercise.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I'm struggling with my weight. Does anyone have experience with fasting? Does it work?

I don't personally like it.

The best way to lose weight is to walk a lot, consistently.

I hate fasting because it makes me feel ill. I suffer with vertigo so if I go without putting anything into my stomach for too many hours I start feeling giddy and nauseous and I go all shaky, especially if I have to travel.

I just use the cut-down diet, where you count all the calories you eat on an app and not exceed your recommended amount. It's the best way to lose weight. You don't even have to give any of your favourite foods up, you just stick to the limit each day. Works for me, although my diet seems to have fluttered out the window at the moment. It's the soda drinks addiction.

Hi,

I weigh 90 kilograms so i am fat and i want to lose weight. But since i have mild autism and social anxiety its hard for me to go to gym. Because it's a social environment and i get anxious in these places. I was thin when i was a little kid but i started to gain weight then. I dont know if it's related to the pills i take (i am using prozac concerta and abizol pills).

What should i do to lose weight? Should i go to gym? Should i stop using pills? Or should i just dont eat?

I am on a 5x2 diet.
Eat 5 days a week normally and fast for 2. It works if you can keep it up.

Exercise is always good.

There are "fat" pills on the market that expel 30% of the fat you eat.
Apart from the danger of leakage because you have too much fat in your diet, it helps with weight maintenance and loss.

Ask your shrink if your meds cause weight gain.
Some meds are known for causing very rapid weight gain.

Yes, it works. I am on a fasting diet. See above.
The "trick" is, that you have to be in the right frame of mind to keep it up.
Without the right mindset, you won't succeed and will go back to your old ways. 8)

losing weight is 90% what you eat and 10% exercise

I found intermittent fasting worked well. That's not having milk in my coffee or any food before 12pm

I had gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y) surgery around 8 years ago and lost 120 pounds. Before I lost the weight I had a number of health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure and many more. Within days after my surgery many of these issues went away. I have for the most part kept the weight off. So it worked for me.

I try not to eat before 3 pm.

The first response by ScottieKarate to the OP in 2017 gives a good concise answer to HelHelly, who revived this thread.

I actually tried it myself after reading a book about low carb diet. It was indeed very effective and easy. Although I wasn't overweight, I tried a low carb diet for health in general. I ate lots of meat, cheese and vegetables and never went hungry. I just stayed away from anything that have lots of carbs, such as bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, cakes, cookies etc. I easily lost 10kg in 2 months. It's very effective. I recommend this to anyone who wants to lose weight and/of and/or stay healthy.

the main thing is to cut out sugars, gluten and gliadin, from wheat and oats. that will eliminate the bulk of refined carbs from your diet, that will force your body to work harder for its metabolism thus fat will have to be burned instead of carbs. also, i restrict my eating to a 6-hour daily window of time, the remaining 18 hours is either asleep or grazing on veggie juice or broth. also watch your salt intake.

Calories in Vs calories out. really is that simple

do something you enjoy to burn calories as that gives you the best chance of sticking with it. If you enjoy the gym then do it, if you enjoy cycling then do it, if you enjoy skipping, dancing, walking, open water swimming, then do it. There are no rules, just do what you enjoy and consume the right amount of calories
