Because they are as*holes and because it's they don't think the person will take them seriously.

Thanks for responses.

Usually when I've pressured them enough (when I DO pressure them) they eventually tell me it's because I'm dull and one dimensional. That tells me a little bit of why they take advantage I guess. Still would much rather prefer a more peaceful social environment, and I KNOW they would as well.

Why do people go out of their way to cause harm to others when they expend their own energy in the process?

Do folks do this on a regular basis? And is it more than one person who does this?

You would have to give examples of occurances.

How did a conversation with a group of folks go that led up to someone saying "why dont you go kill yourself?".

Thats an extreme thing to say to someone so either the person saying was an extremely hostile person. Or you were being extremely socially obtuse in some way that provoked them. And if more than one person in your life it suggests that its you thats accidently provoking it. Not to blame the victim (you), but to try to figure out why your failing at surviving in the world. .

I've been told to kill myself many times, mostly online by people who were trolls and/or cyberbullies. I don't think anyone has ever said that to me in person since high school. I have only told someone to kill themselves once, after they criticized me, and I quickly apologized and they accepted.

I do the same thing. I like the look on the person's face after I say that.

To make you feel better, from my experience, people who tell others to kill themselves online in that sort of a way are usually insecure losers with too much time on their hands, who lack the basic maturity to know that there's another person on the side of the screen. However that doesn't excuse such actions at all - nobody should ever be treated like that. You're a better person than them, so next time somebody says something along those lines, remember they're just asshats who enjoy picking on people - they don't deserve a second thought. Same applies for people who say it in real life - but if you're getting harassed IRL, please tell somebody you can trust. At the end of the day, whether online or in real life, telling somebody to kill themselves is emotional abuse.
