I learned to drive at 19 or 20, but because I was forced to, lol. I still hate it-it's not me that I'm so worried about usually, it's the way other people drive. I'm very tense while I drive and get nervous if anyone talks to me at all while I am driving. I'm constantly watching the dashed lines and making sure to keep them crossing the exact same point in my line of sight looking at the corner of my windshield, and if they aren't, I worry.

I absolutely hate riding with people though-cars always look closer to me than they are, or they aren't paying quite close enough attention to what they are doing to make me feel comfortable. I always buckle up and lean the seat down as far as it will go, and attempt to take a nap while they are driving, otherwise I'm a mess by the time we get wherever we are going.

I waited until I was 18. I did perfectly well on the written exam. I passed the driving part two points shy of flunking, though (completely flunked parallel parking). I am a safe driver mostly because I am an overly careful driver. I will speed a little if I think it is safe, but I generally don't think that's the case. I have poor night vision and poor depth perception, and I overcompensate for these deficits by staying near or below the speed limit on narrow or dark roads. I am keenly aware of the awful things other drivers will do when they're type A or in a hurry, so I'm on the contant look-out for potential sociopathic/negligent drivers so they don't kill me. I have never had a ticket.

I hate driving. I avoid large cities and congested traffic whenever possible. If I ever marry, I hope my hypothetical husband would like driving. Or at least do it because he loves me.

I'm hoping computers will be doing most of the driving in the future that way I can relax.

I passed first time aged 19 after 20 or so lessons; it was raining the day of the exam and my excessive caution (I only started using 4th gear after 11 lessons - though A S was partly to blame - I was told to use it when I reached 30 miles per hour, and this took 'till then because I was afraid to go above 30) was viewed as "sensible driving for the conditions".

I was 20 minutes into the test before I used 4th gear.

I use to run out of gas a lot (I remember coasting into a gas station once) but my car now won't let me forget when it gets down to the last 50 miles before empty although I have still managed to run out with that.

I'm 26 and can't drive. I don't like the fact that I can't drive the posted speed limit without angry people getting backed up behind me. I don't like that there is at least one poorly planned and designed dangerous turn in each direction to go anywhere from my home. I haven't gotten my learners permit renewed because of the way people react to a 26 year old person getting a learners permit.

I got my Learner's Permit and started taking Driver's Ed during my Junior Year of High School. I was excited to start learning how to drive but when I got behind the wheel for the first time my feelings towards it changed. It was harder and scarier than I thought it was going to be. Even though I did well on the classroom part of the Driver's Ed program, I did not do well on the driving part of it. My driving instructor did not help matters too much. I could not really learn from him, he was a nervous older gentleman. He, I and even the lady running the program (who taught the classroom portion) decided that I should take more private driving lessons to get used to things. I did and I got a better teacher. A few months later I took my first road test and failed it. I went over the curb while parking, I was never a good parker. I was frustrated and upset but did not give upset. I took a few more lessons and I took the test again and passed, barely. Even after passing the road test I was never really confident and good behind the wheel. It took me a few good months after that to really learn things.

When I started finally driving a little more and even driving on highways I got into an accident. I was rear-ended by a Federal Express van. He was in the wrong (even though for a while I felt I was in the wrong) and we get some money for it. The accident shook me up quite a bit but I more or less went back into driving. I then got into a another rear-ender later on (about a year or two later) which shook me up again. This one wasn't as bad.

In the last couple of years I lost my interest, patience and feeling about driving. I became less skillful, less desired to do it, annoyed by it, scared to do it. I just don't feel right behind the wheel anymore. Occasionally I do move the car from one parking space to another for my father but that's about it and even that becomes a chore for me. I can barely park.

I'm almost 22 and still not driving. Where's the option for that? I hate driving and I kind of gave up on it. Maybe I'll get my license when I'm around 30, if I'm lucky.

I don't drive because I can't be bothered to pay for driving school. If I got my license, then my parents would probably talk me into saving up my money to buy a car. They would probably insist that since I was capable of driving myself places, it is my responsibilty to buy a car, since my parents are not going to act like my personal chauffeurs.

I was just wondering if AS makes it harder to drive I am 27 and have only recently received my Learners permit. How old were you when you got your licence and if you dont have one why not?

I was 26 when I got my license, and was totally terrified.
I'm 37 now and I'm a very good driver.

AS positive impact to driving:
I'm good with machines. I work with them, I understand them, I get the feel for them, so I can handle them well.

AS negative impact to driving:
Hand/eye/both feet coordination isn't good, I don't do so well with a standard transmission...never have, probably never will.

Good Luck! :)
