Not trying to be argumentative but you don't speak for the entire NT population.
You have a good understanding of ASD which gives you an advantage in spotting traits that a layman would just see as quirky or different. Obviously if you absolutely scream Aspie out every pore it's easy to tell , I'm not saying you won't be seen as different but I don't think ASD is the goto armchair diagnosis that some NT's jump too.
P.S. I haven't been Dx so may be an NT but I definitely feel like the flower in your analogy
P.P.S But I have evolved into a venus flytrap now

^Yes, would have to agree with you there.. No one noticed me till i was 39 ... Even doctors, psychologists didnt see it. ( mainly due to false stereo types etc) Always known as a little quirky, ahead of my time, and the age old, little professor when a kid. Yet only one person picked it up initially. Took 2 years to finally see and AS specialist and she could tell quit quickly. Again this seems to be a very common thing amongst this forum, many people having a hard time being ''seen''.. So no i dont think NT's can pick it up easily... Just what i have observed from my experience and of people on here and in RL, again as mentioned like NT's we are all different. and what is seen on the outside as a mask is not what is experienced inwardly. Kind of tiring when one thinks everyone is experiencing the same things and wandering to oneself why one is having a much harder time. Only to find out after 40 years that very few experience the many things i have had to learn to cope with.. Hence the implosion for many undiagnosed in their late 30's early 40's ...

I wasn't speaking as a representative of the NT population.
I cannot tell you how much this post bothered me.

I think Ferris (or Ferrets) said that because you said "we" instead of "I" in your original post. I don't think he meant to be rude or offensive.

I'm not sure what in his post bothered you, as I don't see anything wrong with it either; he just stated what most of us experienced at some point or the other. I've had a very similar experience myself.

I agree. That's what I have experienced as well.

Yes, but if one doesn't "understand it at all" can one be said to have truly "detected" it, which was the OP's (somewhat vague) question.
The answer is, IMO, that virtually anyone not on the spectrum may be aware of our differences, to one degree or another, without having any sort of label for what they're sensing, other than "weird," or "odd." It's almost impossible for them not to spot that something isn't quite right.
OTOH, if one has never heard the term "Asperger Syndrome," then obviously you wouldn't come up with it on your own, and the term is virtually unknown to the majority of the population. So, no, most NT's would not recognize an HFA as "Aspie," thank goodness. I absolutely despise that word. Ass-Pee. Could it be any more demeaning or offensive? I much prefer Aspergian.
User types are not common, but I think some people do run into them more than they should simply because that kind of person is purposefully targeting them. Like how I have this nice flower in my yard that attracts bees. It's not the flower's fault that bees keep coming to it, and it can't very well stop being a flower to get away from the bees.
Well, speaking as a flower, In my experience, those user types are entirely too common. Some are worse than others, they vary from simple manipulative selfish jerks to outright sociopaths, but their behavior is pretty similar. I'd estimate they make up a fairly sizable percentage of the overall population. Perhaps as much as 30%.

Now I understand why some autistics hate the word Aspie . I agree; I don't think most people have even heard of "Asperger's Syndrome" before. At least that has been the case with me.

I really should just stick to banning , insulting and blaming people
Actually, ferrets are known for doing that . Seriously Ferris, (Ferrets, SaveFerrets, etc.) I'm sure you didn't mean to offend anybody.

Exactly, if posting someone's experience bothers some people for the sole reason that it disagrees with them, I don't see the point of the message boards. We could all sit around the fire and sing Kumbaya but that's not what this forum is about.
I liked that post, especially the part of SaveFerris being evolved into a Venus flytrap lol

I agree. I honestly saw nothing offensive about Ferret's post. #ferretsunite!

Someone above said "aloof, loners". Add "sometimes wierdos" and that's pretty much it.
But I doubt that even today many NT's "would recognize that you are an aspie" because very few NTs have any notion of what Aspergers, or what the autism spectrum is.
And back in the 20th Century, when I grew up, aspergers and the concept of an "autism spectrum" didn't even exist in the medical profession. So back then even a shrink who was working on you would never class an aspie as an aspie, much less a lay person NT who was a classmate, or coworker. An aspie or HFA person would be recognized as different, and or weird, but no one would "out" you (even in the privacy of their mind) as being aspie, or HFA. Because the category didn't exist.
