I don't care about your's or anyone else's views on abortion, but I find it very wrong to kill a child just because they have a disability.

You're darn tootin'!

Many people with disabilities contribute more than many people without disabilities.

But that's actually irrelevant. We're talking about human life hee.

Exactly. I just don't want to start up an argument on people's views on abortion.

Genetics can only confer a susceptibility to autism and may never be able to confirm it for sure. I don't think they can do brain imaging on a fetus.

I think there is a lot of benefit to genetic research if applied with good intentions.
It would be useful for getting early diagnosis and treatment and understanding a child's issues.

48 years ago I had a baby boy who died 7 hours after he was born. They couldn't give me a reason why.
I recently decided to have a look at my x chromosome and see if there was anything there that would be harmful to a boy, such as mecp2 mutations.
That's exactly what i found, pathogenic mutations on my genotyped alleles, so many that i had to ask questions to see if i was reading dbsnp right.

It doesn't affect me much but probably would be fatal for a boy if he inherited the bad copy.
So 48 years later i finally have a reason for why I lost my baby boy.

I respect your opinion, but I view it as the child will probably live a bad life. I view it as the odds of ending up with parents that are sh***y is high. I also see no problem with life ending before the fetus gains sentience.

I don't disagree with that, but I see parents who can nurse their child as an important part in that. I see it as wrong to make a child suffer just so it can exist.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I bet he was beautiful :)

I believe that genetic research can be very beneficial- if it is done in the correct way, of course. Even if a child only lives 7 hours, it is better than none. But that's just my opinion. *Hugs* :D

I respect your opinion as well. We won't always get along. You can have yours, and I'll have mine. :D

I've heard that Down Syndrome babies are aborted sometimes.

I find that to be wrong---especially since Down Syndrome people usually are happy and sociable people, and are able to be productive, especially if they are nurtured when young.

Exactly- I hate that. They may suffer from physical health problems, but they are happy to be alive. I wish there was a way to remove the heart defects and health issues without removing the amazing people they are. Same with Williams, Angelmans, and Fragile X Syndrome. I love the people with the conditions because they are so awesome, but I hate how they suffer. They don't deserve that, in my opinion.

People with Down syndrome live about half the avgerage life of an unimpaired person, can't have kids, suffer numerous physical health problems, and always suffer mental impairment.

But you don't see them complaining about it, do you? I hate how they live a shorter life span due to health issues, but it's a lot longer lifespan than if they were aborted, in my opinion.
