I found this test on line but after reading some of the comments it appears that the test is not related to attention but which side of the brain you process language with. I don't want to spoil the test in case anyone wants to try it , don't read any of the comments as this will also spoil the test. You will be asked a question about what you heard.

Make sure you use headphones

As this is an Aspie forum I fully expect someone to give away the answer to this test in some way and reveal it for others - but I can hope.

My answer to the question was 'No' and I even replayed the audio because I didn't believe.

Very interesting. I was surprised how well I was doing in terms of obeying the instructions, but was concerned that I'd have forgotten the details I'd heard by the time I got to the end. I don't think I've spoiled anything by saying that. Now I'm going to shut up about what I discovered next.

How about starting another thread, with suitable spoiler alerts, for people to discuss the results they got without spoiling it here? It's so hard for me to keep quiet!

I quess it's fine from now on because anyone reading the further posts would have to scroll down so as long as they watch the video first they won't get any spoilers. And if they don't watch the video first- it's their own fault.

As for the video:
I didn't understand almost ANYTHING from what the woman was saying nor what other people were saying for that matter. It was harder for me indeed, because English isn't my mother language but I don't think i would do much betetr in Polish, the video was just very difficult. It was just a constant noise and I found myself constantly blinking my eyes for some reason, probably in order to control the chaotic input. But I did hear, clear and loud... umbrella... umbrella... umbrella. Because it was repetitive. A tiny bit of order in the chaos.
So I kinda passed. At least sort of. I missunderstood/misheard but did hear. :jester:
Too bad I wasn't able to do what is important in real life - hear what the person I am talking with is saying. I hear everything else instead. I am often the first one who hears an unexpected sound because I am aware of the background sounds while others filter them out somehow.

Yes, I suppose they've been adequately warned.

I still won't say anything yet because I want to have another go first.

The only words I understood in that video apart from the instructions were "wrapping paper", "red" and "blue".
Can other people actually hear the whole conversation?
It sounds like a string of "mffm mummff mmmff" to me. :|

My guess is that I'd probably be able to do OK at repeating only one of the two sentences as long as the words are spoken very clearly with no accents (say 60-70% accuracy), but if you ask me to do two at once, I'd probably fail nearly every time.

I voted definitely not.

Me too, I heard something about wrapping paper, silver, and scissors, and that's about it.

I definately couldn't hear the whole conversation by the women but I was just picking up keywords ( hopefully the right ones for the test ) , while trying to concentrate on the women the mens conversation kept annoying me so I was getting keywords from their conversation - story of my life - trying to listen to one conversation while another one is going on and then just getting a blend of keywords from the both so nothing makes real sense but I think I have been able to blag my way through life by making the appropriate noises unless someone asks me about something they said or accuses be of not listening  .

I didn't watch the video but I don't think that's the test I'm describing. The test I described is called Competing Sentences and is an auditory processing test.

Why are there so many stupid tests like this? There is no point in doing them, and when I fail -not if, when- all I can say is, "welp here's yet another thing I suck at".

Absolutely not, but with my ADD, I don't think I could do well with just 30 of the same sentence before losing focus and panicking. I also have a hard time believing many people could pass the test. Most of the people I've encountered can't even repeat what I said accurately; they always translate it to what they understand.

Ditto. (I think that about covers it for me)

No, def not. I can't keep track of two things being said at once. It's almost overwhelming just to think about it.
