There is no such thing as a test model computer.

As a technical writer, I could actually quibble and say that yes there is such a thing as a test model computer ...

But in the normal world as opposed to the corporate world of engineers poking around the insides of a machine to tinker with both hardware and software / firmware ... realistically, ASS-P is not going to ever see a "test model" computer. He's going to see a "finished product" computer that has been deemed fit to sell to the masses comprised of the typical civilian computer user. So yes, we pretty much agree that ASS-P likely won't be seeing a "test model computer" any time soon, nor does he need to ... unless he ends up majoring in electrical engineering.

What would be the best way for me to look for a true female friend in the New Haven area of Connecticut?

What would be the safest and best Aspergers dating site for me to go on to find very pretty girls?

Hello, I'm a bit ahead of you, but not massively so I will have a go. Sorry if it sounds patronising but I like things clear.

I write things on a thing called 'microsoft word 2010' it came with the computer, it has a square icon with a blue W on it, does your computer have that or something similar? if yes press on it, it will bring up a page to write on, before you come off, it will ask you if you want to save changes, say yes. If you cannot find icon look under your menu, on mine this is the same place as the start/finish icon. What you put there you will be able to find again latter by looking under the menu it says 'documents'. Playing around with it is the only way to get the hang of it I'm afraid.

To digitize pictures, you need a scanner, printers usually have these. Do you have access to a printer?

.

Hi ASS-P, I get it, this sucks. I just checked and you're in California, which hopefully does not suck. I'm on the East Coast, but in a blue state. So, our public libraries offer free help with IT stuff - you can call and set up a time, and they also have "office hours" every week where you can just show up.

Would it help for you to call your closest library to see if you can go there and maybe walk through some stuff with a live person who could print out instructions for you afterward? Assuming you can get to a library, which I know may not be the case. Just thinking of how you might get live instruction without all the rigmarole of registering and paying or having to prove you're poor enough to be helped, etc. etc. yuck.

I understand what ASS-P is saying and I understand his struggle.

Thing is what is common knowledge to all of us is not to him. What he is saying is that he needs someone to sit down with him and explain certain prerequisite knowledge to him and no he can't just look it up. He would have to understand what to look up and how to phrase it properly.

...I've had the respite of being in this rehab place these last month's - I definitely have improved, but once this is withdrawn from me I dn' t know What I can do.
This place has a lot of people with dementisimilar like that roommate I mentioned, people will never leave, except to go somewhere stronger, if that. At least some of them have some family, and some ' stuff " , for want of a better phrase, to draw on I don"t :( . I've had a bit more of a lige by going out, but even peson/s have daid that I shouldn't have done that, shouldn't have gone out to get phone minutes among other by things - which would mean that I couldn"t do this.
I tend to imagine that, as happened with Thanksgiving, my Christmas Day won't amount to much  .

That's not what ASS P meant. He meant a computer designed to be some kind of tutorial model.

Well why don't you check local bulletin boards or on the internet and see if there are any free or cheap computer classes you could take? I see those advertised from time to time at libraries and community centers, and they are specifically geared towards adults who struggle with using computers...so that could help.

As for the college thing its kind of your job to find out about the college and decide if its what you want to apply for, you can usually get help with the application process on the campus if you apply on campus, but its up to you to provide your info and what not. Also though college isn't free its either very expensive and you have to get grants and loans...so you'd probably have to apply for those and be approved before you could really enroll, unless you can pay out of pocket which I doubt.

What are you even wanting to get out of college exactly? like what sort of degree would you be going for?

There have to be basic classes where you are in using the keyboard. What they used "typing classes" in the 20th Century, combined with computer basics. Community colleges teach little one credit courses. Libraries probably have little courses in that too.

Libraries have offered free computer classes for decades.

Quote:
Computer Basics 1
Want to begin using a computer? Need practice using a mouse and keyboard? This class introduces first-time computer users to common computer terms and features.

Computer Basics 2
Learn the most common Microsoft Windows features, including toolbars, the scroll bar, and text boxes. This class includes a brief introduction to Word and Internet Explorer. Prerequisites: Computer Basics 1 or the ability to use a mouse.

http://www.spl.org/audiences/adults/cla ... er-classes

They also offer free college planning help

"Check out the library for free college-planning help"

https://www.seattletimes.com/nwshowcase ... ning-help/

I think maybe what ASS-P really wants is for some individual who reads WP to take him under their wing.

ASS-P, you only have a smartphone? You're way ahead of me, man. I couldn't join this site until I had wi-fi to support my laptop. I have a smartphone, but doing stuff like this with it is beyond me.

Libraries should have computers available for their patrons to use. Until I got my wi-fi set up, I used the computers in my local library if I wanted to print out driving directions or anything like that. There should be no charge to use them, although you'll be limited to probably an hour. So the librarian can teach you, in the library, on one of their computers.

... I just looked up a touch-screen computer that AARP advertises as being senior-friendly. Oh, forget it, it's over a thousand dollars. AARP must not know any seniors who have to live on Social Security alone.

PS look here, I am going to find this thread on Christmas Day and post a Christmas greeting to you. We aspies need to stick together.

Edit in: Believe it, bubbeleh. I just wrote on my calendar to post you a greeting on Christmas Day.
